105. Surah Al-Fil

The Elephant

In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful

105:1

الم تر كيف فعل ربك باصحاب الفيل ١

أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِأَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْفِيلِ ١

أَلَمۡ

تَرَ

كَيۡفَ

فَعَلَ

رَبُّكَ

بِأَصۡحَٰبِ

ٱلۡفِيلِ

Have you not seen ˹O Prophet˺ how your Lord dealt with the Army of the Elephant?

Have you not considered, [O Muḥammad], how your Lord dealt with the companions of the elephant?¹

— Saheeh International

Do you [Prophet] not see how your Lord dealt with the army of the elephant?

الم يجعل كيدهم في تضليل ٢

أَلَمْ يَجْعَلْ كَيْدَهُمْ فِى تَضْلِيلٍۢ ٢

أَلَمۡ

يَجۡعَلۡ

كَيۡدَهُمۡ

فِي

تَضۡلِيلٖ

Did He not frustrate their scheme?

Did He not make their plan into misguidance?¹

Did He not utterly confound their plans?

وارسل عليهم طيرا ابابيل ٣

وَأَرْسَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ طَيْرًا أَبَابِيلَ ٣

وَأَرۡسَلَ

عَلَيۡهِمۡ

طَيۡرًا

أَبَابِيلَ

For He sent against them flocks of birds,

And He sent against them birds in flocks,

— Saheeh International

He sent ranks of birds against them,

ترميهم بحجارة من سجيل ٤

تَرْمِيهِم بِحِجَارَةٍۢ مِّن سِجِّيلٍۢ ٤

تَرۡمِيهِم

بِحِجَارَةٖ

مِّن

سِجِّيلٖ

that pelted them with stones of baked clay,

Striking them with stones of hard clay,

— Saheeh International

pelting them with pellets of hard-baked clay:

فجعلهم كعصف ماكول ٥

فَجَعَلَهُمْ كَعَصْفٍۢ مَّأْكُولٍۭ ٥

فَجَعَلَهُمۡ

كَعَصۡفٖ

مَّأۡكُولِۭ

leaving them like chewed up straw.¹

And He made them like eaten straw.¹

— Saheeh International

He made them [like] cropped stubble.
