Allah swears by the night.
He says 'when it covers...' leaving the object of the verb open ended. The implied object can be understood as 'covers the day,' or 'covers everything' in darkness
Allah takes this oath by the night to alert us to its important role in our lives. It is the time when everything becomes still and we have a chance to give our bodies the comforting rest that we need.
