ٱقْتُلُوا۟ يُوسُفَ أَوِ ٱطْرَحُوهُ أَرْضًۭا يَخْلُ لَكُمْ وَجْهُ أَبِيكُمْ وَتَكُونُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ قَوْمًۭا صَـٰلِحِينَ ٩

أَرۡضٗا
يَخۡلُ
لَكُمۡ

(Ramai di antara mereka berkata):" Bunuhlah Yusuf atau buanglah dia ke suatu tempat yang jauh, supaya perhatian dan kasih sayang bapa kamu tertumpu kepada kamu semata-mata, dan supaya kamu sesudah itu menjadi orang-orang yang baik dan berguna".

When I read this ayah (12:25), I imagine two people running towards a door. Isn't it interesting that in the same room, one person is running towards sin and another person is running away from it? One is striving to keep the door of escape closed, another is striving to open that door and escape.

In surah Yusuf [12], Allah informs us about the brothers of Yusuf who said:
[اقْتُلُوا يُوسُفَ أَوِ اطْرَحُوهُ أَرْضًا يَخْلُ لَكُمْ وَجْهُ أَبِيكُمْ وَتَكُونُوا مِن بَعْدِهِ قَوْمًا صَالِحِينَ]
Kill Yusuf or cast him out to another land so that your father's favor will be for you alone, and after that you will be righteous people. [9]
al-Qushayri mentioned in his tafsir:

وهذه آية من عبر الأخلاق السيّئة؛ وهي التّخلّص من مزاحمة الفاضل بفضله لمن هو دونه فيه أو مساويه بإعدام صاحب الفضل، وهي أكبر جريمة؛ لاشتمالها على الحسد، والإضرار بالغير، وانتهاك ما أمر الله بحفظه، وهم قد كانوا أهل دين، ومن بيت نبوة وقد أصلح الله حالهم من بعد، وأثنى عليهم، وسمّاهم الأسباط. ابن عاشور:12/223.

سب سے برا گناہ یہ ہے کہ اپنے آپ کو مطمئن کرنے کے لیے اپنے گناہوں کو جائز قرار دینا شروع کر دیں۔ یہ دراصل اپنے آپ کو بے وقوف بنانا ہے کیونکہ آپ ان احمقانہ جوازوں سے اللہ کو کبھی بے وقوف نہیں بنا سکتے۔ یوسف کی کہانی میں جب بھائی اس بات پر بحث کرتے ہیں کہ یوسف سے کیسے جان چھڑائی جائے۔ وہ ان سے نفرت کو اپنا مقصد قرار نہیں دیتے، انہوں نے یوسف کے خلاف اپنے جرم کا جواز پیش کرتے ہوئے یعقوب (ع) پر حسد کا الزام لگانا شروع کیا۔
