يسبح لله ما في السماوات وما في الارض الملك القدوس العزيز الحكيم

 يُسَبِّحُ لِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ٱلْمَلِكِ ٱلْقُدُّوسِ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْحَكِيمِ

'PERFECT IMPERFECTIONS'.
I remember this being a catch phrase in social media a few years ago. 

Perfection is only with Allah.
Only Allah is Perfect in His Perfection.

SubhanAllah.
In the Quran, 7 Surahs begin with declaring and attesting Allah's Perfection.
My 2021 Quran study included 6 of the 7 Surah Musabbihaat. 

I glorify Allah as I traversed fleeting green pastures and am reminded of my fleeting worldly life (al 'Alaa)
I glorify Allah as I learn of Allah's Perfect Justice in the endings of the believers and the disbelievers (at Taghabun)
I glorify Allah as I saw that some of the Blessed Companions got distracted with worldly life and got admonished (al Jumu'a)
I glorify Allah as I felt the strength of being part of the ummah standing in solid lines (al Saff)
I glorify Allah as I silently celebrated the expulsion of the betraying Jews (al Hashr)
I glorify Allah as I got terrified by the 'wall' separating the believers from the disbelievers (al Hadid).

I look forward to complete the 7 when I 'travel' to Al Aqsa in Surat al-Isra', soon, in sha Allah!

I leave 2021 with Alhamdulillah as 
I enter 2022 with Bismillah  whilst constantly attesting and declaring His Perfection,
Bi idznillah.

In Surah Al-Jum'ah (The Congregation), specifically in verse 1, the word 'Al-Malik' appears as one of the attributes of Allah. The verse is as follows:

سَبَّحَ لِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ الْمَلِكِ الْقُدُّوسِ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَكِيمِ

'Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth is exalting Allah, the Sovereign, the Pure, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.'

In this context, 'Al-Malik' (الْمَلِكِ) translates to 'The Sovereign' or 'The King.' It signifies Allah's supreme authority and dominion over all creation. Allah is depicted as the ultimate ruler and owner of everything in existence, highlighting His absolute power, control, and governance (rule) over the universe. The term emphasizes His unmatched sovereignty and leadership, asserting that all things are under His command and that He is the source of all laws and order in the cosmos.

Notice that the ultimate ownership, rule, and control rest with none other than Allah. While governments may govern, their control is limited; they cannot fully prevent crime. Similarly, we may possess our bodies, but we cannot completely control them, as seen with conditions like high cholesterol or diabetes. True power does not need to be flaunted. The apparent inability of governments to assert total control highlights their inherent weaknesses. In the same way, God does not need to be visible to manifest His might.

Quddūs is an aggrandizement of the root word q-d-s (ق-د-س), and can mean ‘pure’, ‘holy’ or ‘blessed’. It tells us that God Almighty is pure from any defect and purified from anything blameworthy. Another meaning of Quddūs is that God Almighty purifies the hearts and souls of His worshippers, but what God Almighty Himself is purified from may be something that is necessary for humans. A person who does not sleep is an insomniac and most likely needs treatment. With God Almighty, His non-sleep shows His self-sufficiency. And according to Imam Al-Qurtubi, the name Al-Quddūs also describes the One who is glorified and revered by the angels. As Ibn Al-Qayyim reminds us, Al-Quddūs is too pure and holy to ever act with oppression. This is important to keep in mind and comprehend, so that we do not attribute blameworthy human attributes to God Almighty. Sheikh Abdulrazzaq Al-Badr shows that the Name Al-Quddūs comes with the Name Al-Malik in the Qur’an, which means the Sovereign or King. When people hear that God is King, that could be a neutral attribute, or it could even be a negative one if they have had bad experiences with oppressive kings. Hence, God Almighty tells us that He is 'Al-Malik Al-Quddūs', reminding us not to get confused. He is the King, but He is Pure and so He acts with ultimate justice. There is no oppression under Him.

LIVING THE SEERAH IN OUR TIMES

This juz touches on events in the Seerah of the Prophet SAW.  These events not only shaped the new society in Madinah more than a thousand years ago but they are the blueprint for the muslim ummah till today. The Madinan society was being groomed to be the global leader in the fast-growing Muslim populace. The 'newly-minted muslims' were still new to the teachings of Islam. They needed spiritual guidance and since  Madinan society was made up of people from varied and differing backgrounds of societal ranks and faith; they need to be moulded into a singular Muslim identity. 

At the same time, there was a simmering tension between the Mujahidins, the Musyrikin Makkah, the Jews and the Munafiqun. The Prophet SAW saw the dire need to cultivate the etiquette and social mores of living together in harmony amongst the citizens. 

Accordingly, these surahs were filled with societal regulations that fostered cooperation; harmonious solidarity leading to a community based on teamwork, symbiosis and collaboration. At the same time, calling out the 'haters' and antagonists within the citizenry with warnings of chastisement and retribution should any of them cause danger to the community.

These surahs not only addressed the situation in Madinah but it transcends time to be equally relevant now.  In these grim times, the Ummah needs these same qualities to survive.

May these last days of Ramadhan install unity, mutual understanding and respect in the Ummah for our fight against a common enemy, aamiin.

It brings back the spirit of Ramadhan to me. With everything that is happening around meow, this reminds me that I have a role to play no matter how small. It is inspiring me to keep doing good and most importantly, to maintain my ibaadah, in sha Allah.
