What affects me most about this ayah is how simple and short it is, how the message is so obvious, how the accusation (i.e. the love of life) is so real, and how the phrasing (i.e. to love a 'fleeting' life) shows so clearly the absurdity of the proposition.

لأن الدنيا نعيمها ولذاتها عاجلة، والإنسان مولع بحب العاجل، والآخرة متأخر ما فيها من النعيم المقيم؛ فلذلك غفلتم عنها وتركتموها كأنكم لم تخلقوا لها، وكأن هذه الدار هي دار القرار التي تبذل فيها نفائس الأعمار، ويسعى لها آناء الليل والنهار، وبهذا انقلبت عليكم الحقيقة، وحصل من الخسار ما حصل. السعدي: 900.
