In the story of Musa (peace be upon him) and Firawn, the magic of Firawn's magicians were utterly knocked out and defeated - and it happened so only by the will of Allah. Theirs was only a trick.
All Musa had to do was to put his trust in his Lord and listen to His command (to throw down his staff) and then instantly the staff turned into a snake and devoured their slithering snake-imitating illusions.

In thinking about success, it's worth considering these magicians. Not only did they lose the competition with Musa, but they were ultimately brutally killed by Pharaoh.
While Allah parted the sea and allowed Bani Israel to escape with Musa, he did not decree the same escape for the magicians.
