Surely your God is indeed One,

— Dr. Ghali

truly your God is One,

— Abdul Haleem

Lo! thy Lord is surely One;

— Pickthall

Verily, verily, your Allah is one!-

— Alauddin Mansour

Indeed, your God is One,

— Saheeh International

surely your God is One,1

— Tafheem-ul-Quran - Abul Ala Maududi

the Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, and Lord of the points of sunrise.

— Mufti Taqi Usmani

The Lord of the heavens and the earth, and whatever is between them both and The Lord of the easts.

— Dr. Ghali

Lord of the heavens and earth and everything between them, Lord of every sunrise.

— Abdul Haleem

Lord of the heavens and of the earth and all that is between them, and Lord of the sun's risings.

— Pickthall

Lord of the heavens and of the earth and all between them, and Lord of every point at the rising of the sun!

— Yusuf Ali

— Alauddin Mansour

Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them and Lord of the sunrises.1

— Saheeh International

the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of whatever lies between the two, the Lord1 of the Easts.2

— Tafheem-ul-Quran - Abul Ala Maududi

Verily, We have decorated the nearest sky with an adornment, the stars,

— Mufti Taqi Usmani

Surely We have adorned the lowest heaven with an adornment, the planets,

— Dr. Ghali

We have adorned the lowest heaven with stars,

— Abdul Haleem

Lo! We have adorned the lowest heaven with an ornament, the planets;

— Pickthall

We have indeed decked the lower heaven with beauty (in) the stars,-

— Yusuf Ali

— Alauddin Mansour

Indeed, We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment of stars

— Saheeh International

We have adorned the lower heaven with the adornment of the stars1

— Tafheem-ul-Quran - Abul Ala Maududi

and (have made them) a security against every rebellious devil.

— Mufti Taqi Usmani

And (as) a preservation against every insurgent Shatan. (Ever – vicious (one), i.e., devil).

— Dr. Ghali

and made them a safeguard against every rebellious devil:

— Abdul Haleem

With security from every froward devil.

— Pickthall

(For beauty) and for guard against all obstinate rebellious evil spirits,

— Yusuf Ali

— Alauddin Mansour

And as protection against every rebellious devil

— Saheeh International

and have protected it from every rebellious satan.1

— Tafheem-ul-Quran - Abul Ala Maududi

They cannot listen to the Upper Realm and are hit from every side

— Mufti Taqi Usmani

They do not overhear the most Exalted Chiefs, (i.e., angels) and they are pelted (with hurled meteors) from every side,

— Dr. Ghali

they cannot eavesdrop on the Higher Assembly––pelted from every side,

— Abdul Haleem

They cannot listen to the Highest Chiefs for they are pelted from every side,

— Pickthall

(So) they should not strain their ears in the direction of the Exalted Assembly but be cast away from every side,

— Yusuf Ali

— Alauddin Mansour

[So] they may not listen to the exalted assembly [of angels] and are pelted from every side,1

— Saheeh International

These satans cannot listen to what transpires in the High Council for they are pelted away from every side

— Tafheem-ul-Quran - Abul Ala Maududi

ﭿ

to be driven off, and for them there is a lasting punishment;

— Mufti Taqi Usmani

Rejected, and they will have a lasting torment,

— Dr. Ghali

driven away, they will have perpetual torment––

— Abdul Haleem

Outcast, and theirs is a perpetual torment;

— Pickthall

Repulsed, for they are under a perpetual penalty,

— Yusuf Ali

— Alauddin Mansour

Repelled; and for them is a constant punishment,

— Saheeh International

and are repelled. Theirs is an unceasing chastisement.

— Tafheem-ul-Quran - Abul Ala Maududi

however, if one snatches a little bit, he is pursued by a bright flame.

— Mufti Taqi Usmani

Except him who snatches a snatching (away); then a piercing flaming (meteor) follows him up.

— Dr. Ghali

if any [of them] stealthily snatches away a fragment, he will be pursued by a piercing flame.

— Abdul Haleem

Save him who snatcheth a fragment, and there pursueth him a piercing flame.

— Pickthall

Except such as snatch away something by stealth, and they are pursued by a flaming fire, of piercing brightness.

— Yusuf Ali

— Alauddin Mansour

Except one who snatches [some words] by theft, but they are pursued by a burning flame, piercing [in brightness].

— Saheeh International

And if any is able to snatch a fragment, he is pursued by a piercing flame.1

— Tafheem-ul-Quran - Abul Ala Maududi

Now ask them, “Are they stronger in the formation of their bodies, or those (other beings) that We have created?” Certainly, We did create them from sticky clay.

— Mufti Taqi Usmani

So ask them for a pronouncement: "Are they more valiant as a creation or the ones We created? Surely We created them of clinging clay."

— Dr. Ghali

So [Prophet], ask the disbelievers: is it harder to create them than other beings We have created? We created them from sticky clay.

— Abdul Haleem

Then ask them (O Muhammad): Are they stronger as a creation, or those (others) whom we have created? Lo! We created them of plastic clay.

— Pickthall

Just ask their opinion: are they the more difficult to create, or the (other) beings We have created? Them have We created out of a sticky clay!

— Yusuf Ali

— Alauddin Mansour

Then inquire of them, [O Muḥammad], "Are they a stronger [or more difficult] creation or those [others] We have created?" Indeed, We created them [i.e., men] from sticky clay.

— Saheeh International

So ask them (that is, human beings): “Were they harder to create than the objects We created?”1 We created them from sticky clay.2
