Nu, eu jur pe această cetate!

I swear by this city [i.e., Makkah]

Nay!1 I swear by this city2

— Tafheem-ul-Quran - Abul Ala Maududi

-and (O Prophet,) you are going to be allowed (to fight) in this city-

— Mufti Taqi Usmani

And you (i.e., the Prophet) are an inhabitant of this country.

— Dr. Ghali

and you [Prophet] are an inhabitant of this city––

— Abdul Haleem

And thou art an indweller of this city -

— Pickthall

And thou art a freeman of this City;-

— Yusuf Ali

— Ҳолбуки сиз ҳам мана шу шаҳарда яшайсиз,

— Alauddin Mansour

Şi tu eşti locuitor al acestei cetăţi!

— Grigore

And you, [O Muḥammad], are free of restriction in this city

— Saheeh International

– this city wherein you have been rendered violable–1

— Tafheem-ul-Quran - Abul Ala Maududi

and by the father and all those he begot,

And (I swear) (by) the begetter and what he begot.

— Dr. Ghali

[I swear] by parent and offspring,

— Abdul Haleem

And the begetter and that which he begat,

And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;-

— Ҳамда ота ва ундан бўлган болаларга (яъни, Одам алайҳиссалом ва унинг барча зурриётларига) қасамёд қилурманки.

Pe un tată şi pe ceea ce a odrăslit!

And [by] the father1 and that which was born [of him],

— Saheeh International

and I swear by the parent and his offspring:1

indeed We have created man (to live) in hard struggle.

Indeed We already created man in suffering.

— Dr. Ghali

that We have created man for toil and trial.

— Abdul Haleem

We verily have created man in an atmosphere:

Verily We have created man into toil and struggle.

Дарҳақиқат, Биз инсонни меҳнат-машаққатга яратдик. 1

We have certainly created man into hardship.

Oare el socoate că nimeni nu-l poate dovedi?

Does he think that never will anyone overcome him?

Does he think that no one can overpower him?1

He says, “I have spent a lot of wealth.”

He says, "I have consumed stacked wealth."

— Dr. Ghali

‘I have squandered great wealth,’ he says.

— Abdul Haleem

And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth:

He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance!

У (мақтаниб): «Жуда кўп мол-дунёни (сарфлаб) йўқ қилдим», дер.

El spune: “Am isprăvit averi cu toptanul!”

He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance."

He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.”1

Does he think that no one has seen him?

Thinketh he that none beholdeth him?

and showed him the two ways?

And guided him on the two highways (of good and evil)?

and point out to him the two clear ways [of good and evil]?

And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways?

And shown him the two highways?

Ва Биз уни икки баландликка (яъни, яхшилик ёки ёмонлик довонларини ошиб ўтишга) йўллаб қўйдик-ку! 1

Oare nu Noi i-am arătat cele două căi?

And have shown him the two ways?1

And did We not show him the two highroads (of good and evil)?1

Yet he did not make his way through the steep course,- -

Yet he has not rushed along the uneven (Or: steep) track.

— Dr. Ghali

Yet he has not attempted the steep path.

— Abdul Haleem

But he hath not attempted the Ascent -

— Pickthall

But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep.

— Yusuf Ali

Бас, у (мақтанчоқ кимса яхшилик) довонини ошиб ўтмади!

El nu o apucă însă pe calea suitoare!

But he has not broken through the difficult pass.1

— Saheeh International

But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep.1
