وَلَقَدۡ

أَرۡسَلۡنَآ

إِلَىٰٓ

أُمَمٖ

مِّن

قَبۡلِكَ

فَأَخَذۡنَٰهُم

بِٱلۡبَأۡسَآءِ

وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ

لَعَلَّهُمۡ

يَتَضَرَّعُونَ

We sent messengers before you [Prophet] to many communities and afflicted their people with suffering and hardships, so that they could learn humility.
