Al-Aaraf 7:176 ولو شينا لرفعناه بها ولاكنه اخلد الى الارض واتبع هواه فمثله كمثل الكلب ان تحمل عليه يلهث او تتركه يلهث ذالك مثل القوم الذين كذبوا باياتنا فاقصص القصص لعلهم يتفكرون ١٧٦

If We had willed, We would have elevated him with Our signs, but he clung to this life—following his evil desires. His example is that of a dog: if you chase it away, it pants, and if you leave it, it ˹still˺ pants. This is the example of the people who deny Our signs.¹ So narrate ˹to them˺ stories ˹of the past˺, so perhaps they will reflect.

And if We had willed, We could have elevated him thereby,¹ but he adhered [instead] to the earth² and followed his own desire. So his example is like that of the dog: if you chase him, he pants, or if you leave him, he [still] pants. That is the example of the people who denied Our signs.³ So relate the stories that perhaps they will give thought.
