A Physician by the name of William Harvey thought various experiments discovered the Importance of the Aorta in 1578, and one of these experiments was when the Aorta is compressed the Heart becomes purple and distended until the pressure is released (Since this is the main artery distributing blood, if it is cut the victim would die).
