انما الحياة الدنيا لعب ولهو وان تومنوا وتتقوا يوتكم اجوركم ولا يسالكم اموالكم ٣٦
إِنَّمَا ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَا لَعِبٌۭ وَلَهْوٌۭ ۚ وَإِن تُؤْمِنُوا۟ وَتَتَّقُوا۟ يُؤْتِكُمْ أُجُورَكُمْ وَلَا يَسْـَٔلْكُمْ أَمْوَٰلَكُمْ ٣٦
إِنَّمَا

لَعِبٞ
وَلَهۡوٞۚ
وَإِن
تُؤۡمِنُواْ
وَتَتَّقُواْ
يُؤۡتِكُمۡ

أَمۡوَٰلَكُمۡ
٣٦
This worldly life is no more than play and amusement. But if you are faithful and mindful ˹of Allah˺, He will grant you your ˹full˺ reward, and will not ask you ˹to donate all˺ your wealth.

I was recently reflecting on Yusuf (a)'s outing with his brothers. As a child, I wonder if he must have been excited to go out for a day of fun and play with his brothers. Qatada RA said about this verse : Allah SWT knows by extracting money from someone you will as a result extract his inner contempt for the one asking him to spend it. الأشبه أن هذا عطف على قوله: (فلا تهنوا وتدعوا إلى السلم) تذكيرًا بأن امتثال هذا النهي هو التقوى المحمودة، ولأن الدعاء إلى السلم قد يكون الباعث عليه حبّ إبقاء المال الذي ينفَق في الغزو، فذُكروا هنا بالإيمان والتقوى ليخلعوا عن أنفسهم الوهن؛ لأنهم نُهُوا عنه وعن الدعاء إلى السلم، فكان الكف عن ذلك من التقوى. ابن عاشور:26/133.
