واستغفروا ربكم ثم توبوا اليه ان ربي رحيم ودود ٩٠
وَٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ ثُمَّ تُوبُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِ ۚ إِنَّ رَبِّى رَحِيمٌۭ وَدُودٌۭ ٩٠
وَٱسۡتَغۡفِرُواْ
رَبَّكُمۡ
ثُمَّ
تُوبُوٓاْ
إِلَيۡهِۚ
إِنَّ
رَبِّي
رَحِيمٞ
وَدُودٞ
٩٠
So seek your Lord’s forgiveness and turn to Him in repentance. Surely my Lord is Most Merciful, All-Loving.”

Both times the name Al Wadud , The Most Affectionate or All-Loving is mentioned in the Quran, it's with mention of forgiveness.
There has to be some connection between Allah's love for a slave of His and when He grants His Slave the ability to ask for forgiveness.
We only seek forgiveness , because of the Love Allah has for us , that allows us to return to Him. No matter how severe or how many times a person errs.

Wud means love and an expression of love through the act of giving. And God has Named Himself Al-Wadūd: The Affectionate. This word was specifically chosen to show that God not only loves you, but that He shows you He loves you.
