Whenever I remember to be grateful and sit with it for a few minutes, I feel that there's an almost immediate change occurring within me - an "increase," in a word. But this increase is more of a qualitative increase than a quantitative one: my essence, my radiance, health, mood, relationships, my spiritual and energetic vibration, and, more broadly, the "me" or my entire "beingness" is getting increased at a deep and subtle level. So when Allah ...

"If you are grateful, I will surely give you more."
For a long time I understood this verse very simply. In fact, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that even until yesterday morning, my understanding of it was only this:
_"If a servant is grateful, Allah will give him more."_
Meaning, gratitude was like a transaction to me — that whatever you give doubles, or multiplies many times over, and comes back to you.

That’s how I always understood it. ...

Some smiles are so infectious that you forget your own pain and want to keep looking at them. A young girl stepped in a hostel with her mother. Her mother spent years cleaning the hostel rooms to make a living, and now her daughter will do the same. I started feeling bad by seeing the generational cycle of poverty, but what caught my attention was the joy of that young girl.
She had moved to a city for the very first time in her life ...

Though we all have heard this aayah countless times, even know the grammatical nuances, still sometimes it takes a moment or a trivial incident to fully FEEL the depth of Allah's words

As we were praying taraweeh with my son leading us, I felt a bit disappointed in him as he was rushing through it. I had this waswasa "this is not what I wanted my son to be... Like every mother, I wanted him to be the best qari, reading with tarteel, with emotion...

Reflection question: What daily acts of gratitude, prayer, or kindness can you and your spouse commit to in order to keep Allah at the center of your marriage and peace at the heart of your home?

In response to this question, I do not carry a checklist—
I carry covenants.

We do not decide each day what we will do;
w...

Junior year of high school, my AP US History teacher gave everyone B’s on our test.
Why?
Because the ENTIRE class failed 😅. Even the smartest kid in class. We were all shocked.

When we came in, he told us that after seeing our collective struggle he graded the test on a curve. And honestly, I’ve come to realize that’s what life is like for the believer too.
Because Allah ﷻ is rewarding us for things we didn’t even fully do.

Multiplying the go...

When you're feeling sad, maybe because other people are not understanding you, you might automatically start remembering someone who has been very understanding and compassionate with you, especially in a difficult time. And that person will stay close to your heart forever.

But here in Surah Ad-Dhuha, we and the Messenger of Allah (AS) are being told who it is that we should remember the most: it is Allah SWT, the One who is closer to us than ...

'... Work gratefully, O family of Dawud! Only a few of My servants are truly grateful.' (34:13)

That verse has an important and a powerful message for all of us. But, here, I will just briefly touch on three reflections that came to my mind in relation to that verse:

1- Our work and other routine activities aren't necessarily acts of worship such as prayer and fasting, of course. However, I think that they can become so (or at least we can ge...

There is a philosophical idea called the 'mirror principle.' I googled that term, and here is how Google's AI Overview describes it:

'The mirror principle, in its simplest form, suggests that your outer world is a reflection of your inner world. It's the idea that your thoughts, beliefs, and emotions shape your perception of reality and, consequently, the experiences you encounter. Essentially, what you put out into the world, you tend to recei...
