Bismillah,

When I read these verses together, I’m struck by how easily the human heart slips into denial. How often I live as though accountability is distant, as though the warnings of Allah are far-off events, irrelevant to my present. 

Someone questioned, even mocked, the reality of Allah’s punishment — thinking it was uncertain, or a distant future. Maybe I don’t say these words aloud, but in my actions, I sometimes carry the same attitude. I realize how often I act as though time is endless, as though I have all the time in the world. But Allah says the punishment is waqi‘ — certain, unfolding, already in motion. His knowledge is not like mine. I see past, present, and future in fragments; He sees them all together. Time is His creation, not His limitation. What I think is far away is already sealed and decreed in His sight.

Then Allah pulls back the veil, showing me the reality I tend to ignore. He is the Owner of the Ma‘ārij — the layered pathways of ascent. These are not just poetic expressions; they are real, living channels through which decrees come down and actions rise back up to Him. Every moment, every day, angels are ascending — carrying my deeds, my life’s record, back to my Lord. Nothing is forgotten. Everything is rising, moving, even when I don’t realize it.

Allah then reminds me of where all of this leads — the Final Day. A day that stretches over fifty thousand years, a day so vast that it shatters my limited understanding of time. On this Day, the angels, including Jibrīl, will rise to Allah, ascending through the paths that connect the heavens and earth. Everything will return to Him. The final ascent will take place — all deeds, all records, all truths will rise up, carried by the angels, to stand in complete submission before the One who created them. The rising of the angels is the final return — the act of everything coming back to its Creator, fulfilling the ultimate decree. A Day so immense, so heavy, that my small perception of time feels insignificant before it.

Now, it becomes clear.
The person who mocked in the first verse wasn’t just doubting punishment; they were blind to the entire structure of existence.
They didn’t realize that the system of accountability and return is already in motion — day by day, year by year, continuously — and it is heading, inevitably, to that final, undeniable Day of reckoning.

These verses humble me.
They remind me that doubt or delay changes nothing.
I am already inside this flow.
My deeds are rising now.
And one day, they will rise in full, before the One who knows all of time at once, with no gaps, no distance, no delay.

Ya Allah, awaken me before that final ascent. Let my deeds be clean. Let my record be light. Don’t let me be among those who mocked, while the reality was already surrounding me.
