يُؤْفَكُ عَنْهُ مَنْ أُفِكَ

Allah says in the Quran:

'By the sky full of hubuk.' (ذَاتِ الْحُبُكِ) (51:7)

This verse presents a powerful image of the heavens as a meticulously woven structure. The word 'hubuk' (حُبُكٍ), derived from the root ḥ-b-k, carries meanings of intricate weaving, beauty, perfection, and firmness. Classical linguists likened it to patterns in flowing water, ripples in sand, and the pathways of celestial bodies, all pointing to a universe governed by divine precision. The heavens, with their vast galaxies and orbits, reflect harmony, stability, and intentionality—a flawless creation.

Yet, in the next verse, Allah shifts our attention to human nature:

'Indeed, you are in differing views.' 
(إِنَّكُمْ لَفِي قَوْلٍ مُّخْتَلِفٍ) (51:8)

The contrast is striking. The sky embodies unity and order, yet humanity is trapped in disorder, conflicting beliefs, and doubts. The phrase 'qaul mukhtalif' (قَوْلٍ مُّخْتَلِفٍ) suggests divisive speech, inconsistency, and uncertainty. Unlike the heavens, which follow a set course, humans argue, speculate, and reject divine guidance.

Allah then describes the consequences of this confusion:

'Deluded away from it is he who is deluded.'
 (يُؤْفَكُ عَنْهُ مَنْ أُفِكَ) (51:9)

This verse warns that those who turn away from the truth do so because of their own self-deception. Just as the sky follows a determined and unchanging path, divine truth is also clear and firm. Yet, some people allow their biases, desires, or arrogance to divert them from the straight path.

This passage calls us to reflect: Are we aligning ourselves with divine order, or are we lost in the chaos of conflicting narratives? The universe is a sign of Allah’s wisdom, yet when human thought disconnects from revelation, it falls into confusion and misguidance.

Ya Allah, just as You have woven the sky with harmony, weave within us faith that is firm, unwavering, and beautiful. Protect us from confusion and misguidance, and grant us understanding that aligns with Your divine wisdom.

'Their differing thoughts were regarding the Quran and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and all of it was conjecture. When they rejected the truth, they ended up with a variety of their own methodologies, ideologies, beliefs, and opinions, while the truth is but a single straight and narrow path, and whoever opposes it will be led astray by the other routes and roads. It is just as Allah, the exalted, describes in Surah Qaf:They rejected the truth when it came to them, so now they are in a state of confusion. [50:5]- Ibn al-Qayyim
