دعاۓ نوح علیہ السلام: ذاتِ باری تعالیٰ کو پکار

اللہ تعالیٰ سورۃ الصافات (37:75) میں فرماتا ہے:
وَلَقَدْ نَادَانَا نُوحٌ فَلَنِعْمَ ٱلْمُجِيبُونَ
'اور یقیناً نوح نے ہمیں پکارا، پس ہم کیا ہی خوب جواب دینے والے ہیں!'

میں ہمیشہ سوچتا تھا کہ یہاں اللہ تعالیٰ نے اپنے لیے جمع کا صیغہ 'المجيبون' کیوں استعمال فرمایا، جبکہ ہم جانتے ہیں کہ اللہ ایک ہے۔ غور کرنے پر واضح ہوتا ہے کہ یہاں جمع کا صیغہ اللہ تعالیٰ کی عظمت و جلالت کے اظہار کے لیے استعمال کیا گیا ہے، تاکہ حضرت نوح علیہ السلام کی دعا کے جواب کی شان و شوکت نمایاں ہو۔

یہ اندازِ بیان حضرت نوح علیہ السلام کی دعا کے لیے بہت موزوں بھی ہے کیونکہ ان کی قوم نے تقریباً ایک ہزار سال تک انہیں رد کیا۔ شدید بے بسی اور بے چارگی کے عالم میں آخرکار انہوں نے اپنے رب کو پکارا:
فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّى مَغْلُوبٌۭ فَٱنتَصِرْ
'تب اس نے اپنے رب کو پکارا کہ بےشک میں مغلوب ہوں، میری مدد فرما!' (القمر: 10)

اللہ تعالیٰ نے اس کا جواب ایسے دیا جو تصور سے بھی بالاتر تھا:
'تو ہم نے آسمان کے دروازے موسلا دھار بارش کے ساتھ کھول دیے اور زمین کو چشموں سے پھاڑ دیا، یہاں تک کہ پانی ایک مقدر کیے ہوئے معاملے کے لیے آپس میں مل گیا۔' (القمر: 11-12)

بحیثیت انسان، ہم کمزور، بے بس اور محدود ہیں۔ ہماری فطرت میں ہی ہے کہ ہم مدد کے لیے پکارتے ہیں—اللہ کو پکارتے ہیں، مدد طلب کرتے ہیں، اور اپنی مکمل محتاجی کا اعتراف کرتے ہیں۔ مگر جو لوگ خالق اور رب کا انکار کرتے ہیں، وہ محض اپنی فریب زدہ یقین پر بھروسہ کیے ہوئے ہیں۔ کمزور ہمیشہ طاقت کے طلبگار ہوتے ہیں، اور مومن کو یقین ہوتا ہے کہ اللہ ہی سب سے طاقتور اور بہترین مددگار ہے۔

امام آلوسی رحمہ اللہ اس آیت کی تفسیر میں فرماتے ہیں:

ابن مردویہ حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے روایت کرتے ہیں کہ انہوں نے فرمایا:
'جب بھی نبی ﷺ میرے گھر میں یہ آیت پڑھتے: 'یقیناً نوح نے ہمیں پکارا، پس ہم کیا ہی خوب جواب دینے والے ہیں!' (الصافات: 75)، تو آپ ﷺ فرماتے: 'اے ہمارے رب! تُو نے سچ فرمایا۔ تُو پکارے جانے والوں میں سب سے زیادہ قریب اور طلب کیے جانے والوں میں سب سے زیادہ نزدیک ہے۔ تُو ہی بہترین دعا سننے والا، تُو ہی بہترین عطا فرمانے والا، تُو ہی بہترین دینے والا، تُو ہی ہمارا بہترین رب و مالک ہے، اور تُو ہی ہمارا بہترین مددگار ہے!''

یہ روایت رسول اللہ ﷺ کے اللہ تعالیٰ سے گہرے تعلق کو واضح کرتی ہے—وہ اللہ کو بہترین پکارے جانے والا، بہترین عطا کرنے والا، اور بہترین بھروسہ کیے جانے والا جانتے تھے۔

یہ آیت ہمیں یقین دلاتی ہے کہ اللہ تعالیٰ اپنے کمزور بندے کی پکار کا جواب ایسے شدت اور وسعت کے ساتھ دیتا ہے جس کا تصور بھی انسان نہیں کرسکتا۔ یہ یقین دہانی ہے کہ ہماری دعائیں بھی لازماً قبول ہوں گی، اور جواب ہماری توقعات سے بھی بڑھ کر ہوگا، بس یہ صرف وقت کی بات ہے۔

اللہ تعالیٰ ہمیں وہ اخلاص اور یقین عطا فرمائے جس کے ساتھ حضرت نوح علیہ السلام نے اسے پکارا، اور جس کی تعلیم ہمارے نبی ﷺ نے ہمیں دی ہے۔

What I love so much about the Quran is that it doesn’t strip the emotions out of people, but magnifies them. Each and every one of was built with an internal mechanism that we can access our Creator with. Our emotions are a tool, an avenue, to Allah.  The raw vulnerable emotions of prophets and the pious are highlighted. Prophet Musa was scared (20:67), Maryam peace be upon her wished she had died (19:23), Prophet Yaqoub was overwhelmed with intense grief (12:84), Prophet Musa’s mother’s heart was in distress (28:10), Prophet Noah felt defeated (54:10), Prophet Muhammad’s heart felt constricted (15:97), Prophet Ayoub was in pain (21:83), Prophet Yunus felt helpless in extreme darkness (21:87) and the list goes on.

You don’t have to search long and hard to find the deepest of feelings in people mentioned the Quran. And they’re not just any people, but prophets of God and righteous people to look up to. A pious person isn’t someone who lives a life in the path of God free of feelings, of times of hardship and intense grief and suffering. Rather, we learn through these stories that the pious are those who use their vulnerable situation to draw even closer to God.

In the examples mentioned, feelings are exposed. But what honored these people is that they exposed their wounds to none other than the One who can heal, their Creator and Sustainer.

Feel. Feel every bit of your hurt. But direct it to the only One who can elevate you because of it.

Dua of Prophet Nuh (AS): A Call to the All-Powerful

Allah tells us in Surah As-Saffat (37:75):
 وَلَقَدْ نَادَانَا نُوحٌ فَلَنِعْمَ ٱلْمُجِيبُونَ
'And indeed, Noah called upon Us, and how excellent are We in responding!'


I always wondered why Allah describes Himself using the plural as the plural form of 'Responders' (المجيبون) is used here, although we know Allah is One. Upon reflection it becomes clear that the plural here is expressed to magnify Allah’s grandeur and majesty. It also serves to intensify the greatness of His response to Nuh (AS).   This is also very befitting to Nuh AS's dua since his people rejected him for nearly a millennium, and in such a state of desperation and overwhelmed, he finally cried out:
 فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّى مَغْلُوبٌۭ فَٱنتَصِرْ
'Then he called upon his Lord: ‘Truly, I am overpowered—so help me!’' (Qamar:10) Allah responded in a way beyond imagination:
 'So We opened the gates of the sky with pouring water, and We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so that the waters met for a matter already predestined.' (Qamar: 11-12) 

As human beings, we are weak, vulnerable, and limited. It is in our nature to call out for help—to invoke Allah, to seek assistance, to acknowledge our complete dependence on Him.  But those who reject a Creator and a Lord? The only certainty they hold onto is the certainty of their own delusion. The weak seek strength, and a true believer knows that Allah is the Most Strong, the Ultimate Helper.

Imam Al Alusi makes the following observations: 

Ibn Mardawayh narrates from Aisha (RA) that she said:
'Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) recited this ayah in my house: 'Indeed, Nuh called upon Us, so how excellent are We in responding!' (37:75), he (peace be upon him) would say: 'You have spoken the truth, our Lord! You are the closest to be called upon, the nearest to be sought. How excellent You are as the One who is supplicated to, how excellent You are as the Giver, how excellent You are as the One who is asked, how excellent You are as our Lord and Master, and how excellent You are as our Helper!''


This narration highlights the Prophet’s deep connection with Allah—recognising Him as the best One to call upon, the best One to give, and the best One to rely upon.

The verse highlights the intensity and extent of Allah's response to a weak servant who called upon Allah at a time of distress. The verse reassures us that Allah's response to our duas will take effect in a manner and measure beyond our anticipation. It is only a matter of time. 

May Allah grant us the sincerity and certainty to call upon Him as Nuh (AS) did and as our Prophet (peace be upon him) taught us.

'When the world brings you to your knees, 
look up and raise your hands to the heavens to call on An All-Compassionate Creator,
 who will carry you through your struggles and remind you, this is not the end. 
Your story does not end here. 
This sadness and loss you feel is not permanent. 
And that there is joy and bliss lying ahead. '

Just as Prophet Noah called out to Allah in a moment of deep need, and Allah opened the gates of the sky with rain and burst the earth with springs, He can answer your dua and make a way out for you too.

SOS! Morse code meaning  'Save Our Ship!'  or even 'Save Our Souls!'.

After over 9 centuries of da'wah, Prophet Nuuh AS sent a plea to His Rabb for help.
Allah SWT responded and in these beautiful verses, Allah SWT detailed what His help was.

I can safely say that collectively, as an ummah, we have sent an unprecedented number of SOSes for divine intervention these past few years. Maybe unmatched in volume in past decades! But, when relief did arrive, did we get on the ark; or did we say no to the ark. 
Were we sceptical and created doubts that split the population; dividing families and friends.

Amidst dissension, there were voices of reason calling out to follow the procedures, to get safe and to stay safe.
Were they calling out to a nation similar to Nabi Nuuh AS's nation? 

These verses detailing divine help made me realise that I may not recognise Allah SWT's help when it arrives.

That the flood may be a form of relief to a danger we were oblivious to; or the flood may be the reason for Allah SWT to send the ark as a divine mercy. Nuuh AS's ark was built on wood and nails; so was divine help something we had to work for; something we had to have faith in? Even though in reality no wood nor nails could have weathered such a storm as the one that hit Nuuh AS's nation.

In these times, especially, we are called to follow the Quran and the way of our Prophet SAW.
I remember asking myself, what would my beloved Prophet SAW and his blessed companions RA have done in this situation.

I realised that given the situation and all the expert  information  at hand, 
I had to follow my leaders; 
I realised I needed to think of the safety of everyone
I recognised that I was given the opportunity to act in a way that I think would please Allah SWT and His Prophet SAW the best.

Now as we approach an endemic and the world is opening up, there are no more dissension.
But, did I  pass the real test? 

May Allah bless us with the ability to see any situation as an opportunity to act in the best way to gain Allah SWT's pleasure,
