'ان سے پہلے نوح کی قوم نے جھٹلایا، اور اسی طرح رس والوں، ثمود، عاد، فرعون، لوط کی قوم، گھنے باغ والوں اور تبع کی قوم نے بھی (رسولوں کو جھٹلایا)۔ ان سب نے اللہ کے پیغام کو ماننے سے انکار کیا، تو ان پر اللہ کا عذاب آ گیا۔'
(سورۃ ق، 50:12-14)


قیامت کا ماننا اتنا اہم ہے کہ اللہ نے اس کے انکار کرنے والوں کے لیے پوری انسانی تاریخ کو بطور دلیل پیش کیا۔ یہ آیت محض ایک تاریخی ذکر نہیں، بلکہ ایک بڑی حقیقت کی نشانی ہے۔ آٹھ قوموں کا ذکر کیا گیا ہے، جن کی کہانیاں چند الفاظ میں سمو دی گئی ہیں، مگر ان میں اللہ کی پکڑ اور انسان کی سرکشی کا پورا سبق موجود ہے۔ قریش کے لوگ ان کے کھنڈرات دیکھ چکے تھے، ان کی کہانیاں سن چکے تھے، مگر پھر بھی یہ گمان رکھتے تھے کہ وہ محفوظ ہیں، ان کا شہر، ان کی طاقت اور ان کی نسل انہیں بچا لے گی۔


نوح علیہ السلام کی قوم صدیوں تک انکار کرتی رہی۔ وہ ان پر ہنستے رہے جب انہوں نے خشک زمین پر کشتی بنائی، لیکن جب طوفان آیا، تو کوئی نہ بچ سکا۔


رس والوں کی قوم کا ذکر قرآن میں مختصر ہے، مگر کہا جاتا ہے کہ وہ اپنے نبی کو جھٹلاتے اور ستاتے رہے، یہاں تک کہ ان پر اللہ کا عذاب نازل ہوا۔


ثمود کی قوم کو صالح علیہ السلام کی اونٹنی کا معجزہ دکھایا گیا، مگر انہوں نے تکبر میں آ کر اسے قتل کر دیا، اور ایک چیخ کے ذریعے ہلاک کر دیے گئے۔


عاد کی قوم ہود علیہ السلام کی قوم تھی، جو اپنی جسمانی طاقت اور شاندار عمارتوں پر گھمنڈ کرتے تھے۔ انہوں نے نصیحت کو جھٹلایا، اور ایک مسلسل چلنے والی آندھی نے انہیں جڑ سے اکھاڑ دیا۔


فرعون موسیٰ علیہ السلام کے مقابلے پر آیا، خدائی کا دعویٰ کیا، اور سمندر میں غرق ہو کر ہلاک ہو گیا، مگر اس کی لاش کو عبرت کے لیے محفوظ کر دیا گیا۔


لوط علیہ السلام کی قوم بے حیائی میں انتہا تک جا پہنچی تھی۔ جب وہ باز نہ آئے، تو ان کی بستیاں الٹ دی گئیں، اور ان پر پتھروں کی بارش ہوئی۔


مدین کے گھنے باغ والوں کو شعیب علیہ السلام نے ناپ تول میں خیانت سے روکا، مگر وہ باز نہ آئے، اور عذاب نے انہیں آن لیا۔


تبع کی قوم ایک طاقتور یمنی سلطنت تھی، جن کے بادشاہ بہت مالدار اور بااثر تھے، مگر جب انہوں نے حق سے منہ موڑا، تو اللہ کے عذاب کا شکار ہو گئے۔


یہ سب قومیں ایک ہی انجام کو پہنچیں۔ 'جھٹلایا'—یہ صرف انکار نہیں تھا، بلکہ ضد اور تکبر کے ساتھ حق کو رد کرنا تھا۔ ان کے پاس نشانیاں اور تنبیہات موجود تھیں، مگر وہ نہیں مانے۔ اور پھر 'عذاب'—جس کا وعدہ کیا گیا تھا، وہ سچ ثابت ہو گیا۔ یہ فہرست لمبی ہے کیونکہ انکار کی کہانی ہمیشہ ایک جیسی ہوتی ہے۔ اللہ کا قانون کبھی نہیں بدلتا۔


ان قوموں میں سے کیا باقی بچا؟ نہ ان کے محلات، نہ ان کی طاقت، نہ ان کا وقار۔ جو کچھ باقی ہے، وہ ان کا انکار ہے، جو ہمیشہ کے لیے قرآن میں لکھا جا چکا ہے۔


اور ہم؟ آج ہم بڑی بڑی عمارتیں کھڑی کرتے ہیں، سائنس اور ٹیکنالوجی میں آگے بڑھ رہے ہیں، معیشت کو قابو میں رکھے ہوئے ہیں، اور سوچتے ہیں کہ ہمیں کچھ نہیں ہوگا۔ مگر تاریخ کہتی ہے کہ ایسا نہیں۔ بکھرے ہوئے کھنڈرات ہمیں خبردار کر رہے ہیں، مگر سوال یہ ہے کہ کیا ہم ان سے کوئی سبق سیکھنے کو تیار ہیں؟

Neend or jahaaalat jitni gehri ho jagaanay walay par utna hi shadeed gusa ata hai (sahil adeem)

In Surah Qaf ayah 12, Allah says that 'The people of Nuh disbelieved long before these disbelievers, as did the people of Rass, Thamud.' The context of the revelation of this ayah is that it was revealed to the Makkans of the time who were disbelievers and specifically polytheists. By highlighting the fact to the Prophet Muhammad (saw) that the people of Nuh disbelieve 'long' before these people of Makkah, Allah is granting our Prophet (saw) a sense of hope, comfort and consolation, since this is not the first time that anyone has gone through a trial where they are conveying a message of truth but it is rejected (often extremely harshly, such as when our Prophet (saw) went to Ta'if). Allah is comforting the Prophet (saw) by showing him that Nuh- one of his 'Prophetic Predecessors'- was tested by Allah with his trial, however he was still able to overcome simply by the power of sabr and tawakkul. This is one of the many occasions in the Quran where Allah is highlighting an example of a previous prophet's patience in order to make it easier for the Messenger of Allah (swt) to overcome a test he was put through. 

This ayah can also be a source of immense strength to us muslims in the modern era with Allah using an example of the one of the 'Prophets of Firm Determination'  to urge us to not be disheartened when we try to convey the truth to people and they reject it. Allah is using not only these previous nations and their punishments as examples for us but also the trials that Prophets went through in order to convey a message of truth to their people. The additional message that Allah is perhaps conveying in this ayah is that when us as believers struggle with others mocking and rejecting Islam, we are essentially undergoing a prophetic struggle- we are being put through a prophetic trial that the prophets of Allah had also been put through, therefore the believers reading this ayah would have an exceptional type of strength when dealing with difficult disbelieving personas, since many of the chosen people of Allah had also gone through similar things (and they managed to get though it and were rewarded for it, just like we will).

'Before them, the people of Nuh denied the truth, as did the people of Rass, and Thamud, and ‘Aad, and Pharaoh, and the brothers of Lut, and the dwellers of the thicket, and the people of Tubba‘. All of them rejected the messengers, so My warning was fulfilled.'
(Surah Qaaf, 50:12-14)

The belief in resurrection must be of immense significance for Allah to present the entire record of history as proof against its deniers.

Eight nations are mentioned, their stories condensed into a few words—yet within them lies the full cycle of human arrogance and divine justice. These were not unfamiliar names to the Quraysh. They had passed by their ruins, heard their stories, and seen the remnants of their fate. Yet, they remained unmoved, convinced that their power, their lineage, and their city would protect them.

The people of Nuh (Noah, peace be upon him) denied the truth for centuries, mocking him as he built a ship on dry land. But when the flood came, none of them survived.

The people of Rass are briefly mentioned in the Qur’an. It is said that they rejected their prophet, persecuted him, and ultimately faced destruction. Their name itself is linked to a deep pit, as if they were swallowed by history.

The people of Thamud were shown the miraculous camel of Salih (peace be upon him), yet they arrogantly killed it. In response, a mighty blast erased them from existence.

The people of ‘Aad were the nation of Hud (peace be upon him)—physically strong and builders of grand structures. They boasted of their might, believing that no one could overpower them. But when Allah’s punishment came, a fierce wind uprooted them, leaving nothing behind.

Pharaoh, the tyrant who opposed Musa (peace be upon him), claimed divinity. But when he pursued the believers into the sea, the waters that had parted for them swallowed him whole. His body was preserved as a warning for future generations.

The people of Lut (Lot, peace be upon him) indulged in immoral acts and defiantly rejected his call to purity. When they refused to change, their city was overturned, and stones rained upon them.

The dwellers of the thicket, the people of Shu‘ayb (peace be upon him), were merchants who cheated in trade. They ignored repeated warnings, and divine punishment descended upon them, bringing their destruction.

The people of Tubba‘ were a powerful Yemeni dynasty with vast wealth and influence. They followed a long lineage of kings, but when they turned away from the truth, they too perished.

All of them rejected the truth. 'They denied'—this was not mere disbelief but a stubborn, arrogant rejection of clear signs. They saw miracles, heard warnings, yet still refused to submit. And then came 'the punishment'—the warning that had been given to them became a reality.

This list is long because denial is not an exception—it is a recurring pattern in human history. These were not isolated events but a continuous reminder that arrogance leads to destruction, and divine justice never fails.

What remains of these civilizations today? Not their achievements, not their power, not their wealth. What remains is their rejection—preserved in revelation for eternity.

And what about us? Today, we build towering skyscrapers, advance in science and technology, dominate economies, and assume that we are invincible. But history whispers otherwise. The ruins of the past are scattered across the earth, silent warnings for those who are willing to listen. The question is—will we?

The previous nations mentioned in verses 12-15 all went against Allah (swt), from committing shirk to zina, refusing to heed to the guidance provided by various messengers of Allah (swt), and thus resulting in the termination of these nations via Allah (swt)'s wrath. Similarly, when looking at the story of Nuh (as), His people worshiped idols, a form of shirk, and when Allah (swt) sent Nuh (as) to guide them, they paid no heed to His guidance and thus suffered a terrible flood. 

Allah (swt) then reminds us Muslims in verse 37 that He (swt) is Al-Shaheed, the ever present, and that He (swt) is reminding us to pay heed to the mistakes made by those nations that came before us, so that we as an Ummah may lead a life rid of such transgressions. 

Given the present state of the Duniya, this reminder is imperative to the Ummah, as many of the transgressions seen within those nations are gaining popularity within the modern world. Thus, the Ummmah should seek refuge from fitnah via tools such as Dua, Dhikr, Tazkiya al-Nafs, etc.... to keep Allah (swt) alive in his/her heart so that they may refrain from falling into fitnah, inshallah. 

May Allah (swt) keep us steadfast and protect us from the fitnah that is rife in this modern world, ameen.
