وَ الۡاَقۡدَامِ​ۚ‏ ﻿﻿

پگھلے ہوئے تانبے کی طرح آگ برس رہی ہے، جسم کا کوئی حصہ نہیں بچا جو اس کی لپیٹ میں نہ ہو۔ میں خود کو بچانے کی کوشش کرتی ہوں، لیکن کوئی راہِ فرار نہیں۔ آسمان، زمین، ہوا—سب میرے خلاف ہیں۔ تب مجھے احساس ہوتا ہے کہ مجھے خبردار کیا گیا تھا۔ میں نے یہ باتیں کئی بار سنی تھیں، اس دن کے بارے میں جب آسمان پھٹ جائے گا، زمین لرز اٹھے گی، اور حساب کتاب سے فرار ممکن نہ ہوگا۔ لیکن میں نے ہمیشہ نظر انداز کیا۔


'اس دن نہ انسان سے اس کے گناہ کے بارے میں پوچھا جائے گا اور نہ جنات سے' (55:39).
میں نے سوچا تھا کہ میری زندگی کے اعمال کو کوئی نہیں دیکھ رہا۔ میرے اعمال، میرے الفاظ—یہ سب مجھے معمولی لگتے تھے، جیسے چھپے ہوئے ہوں۔ لیکن یہاں، سب کچھ سامنے آ چکا ہے۔ اس دن کوئی سوالات نہیں ہوں گے؛ فضا خود گواہی دے رہی ہے۔


'گناہگار ان کے نشانات سے پہچانے جائیں گے' (55:41).
میں انہیں دیکھتی ہوں—میرے جیسے اور لوگ۔ ان کے چہرے جھکے ہوئے ہیں، ان پر ندامت کا بوجھ صاف نظر آتا ہے۔ میں اپنے اعمال کا وزن محسوس کرتی ہوں، جو مجھ پر بھاری ہو رہا ہے۔ اب کوئی جھوٹ، کوئی انکار ممکن نہیں۔ دنیا میں کیے گئے فیصلے میرے وجود پر نشان چھوڑ گئے ہیں، جو سب کے سامنے ہیں۔


'یہ وہ جہنم ہے جسے گناہگار جھٹلاتے تھے' (55:43).
ہاں، میں نے بھی انکار کیا تھا۔ بار بار۔ میں نے خود کو یہ یقین دلایا کہ میں اتنی سمجھدار ہوں کہ ان 'کہانیوں' پر یقین نہ کروں۔ میں نے ہر تنبیہ کو تفریح اور مشغولیت کے پیچھے چھپا دیا۔ لیکن یہ—یہ کوئی کہانی نہیں ہے۔ آگ اب دور نہیں رہی۔ اس کی دہاڑ میرے کانوں میں گونج رہی ہے، اس کی گرمی مجھے گھیرے ہوئے ہے۔


مجھے یاد آتا ہے کہ میں نے یہ آیات کبھی سنیں تھیں، انہیں شاعرانہ اور مبالغہ سمجھا تھا:
'اے گروہ جن و انسان! اگر تم زمین اور آسمان کے کناروں سے باہر نکل سکتے ہو تو نکل جاؤ، مگر تم نہیں نکل سکتے مگر اختیار کے بغیر' (55:33).
میں نے اپنی زندگی ایسے گزاری جیسے میرے پاس اختیار تھا، جیسے میں ہمیشہ حساب کتاب سے بچ جاؤں گی۔ لیکن اب میں اس سب کی بے کاریت کو سمجھ رہی ہوں۔ کوئی بھی طاقت یا ذہانت اللہ کے انصاف سے بچ نہیں سکتی۔


ان آیات پر غور کرتے ہوئے، مجھے احساس ہوتا ہے کہ اللہ نے دنیا میں کتنی رحمت فرمائی، یہاں تک کہ جب میں نے انہیں نظر انداز کیا۔ انہوں نے بے شمار مواقع دیے—قرآن کے ذریعے، نبی ﷺ کے ذریعے، اور خود قدرت کی خوبصورتی اور ترتیب کے ذریعے۔ حتیٰ کہ میرے شک اور بےچینی کے لمحے بھی اشارے تھے، جو مجھے اپنی راہ پر سوال اٹھانے کو کہتے تھے، لیکن میں نے سننے سے انکار کر دیا۔


مجھے نبی ﷺ کا یہ فرمان یاد آتا ہے:
'عقل مند وہ ہے جو اپنے نفس کا محاسبہ کرے اور موت کے بعد کے لیے تیاری کرے' (ترمذی).
کتنی بیوقوفی تھی میری کہ میں نے زندگی کو صرف عیش و عشرت کے لیے سمجھا۔ اصل عقل تو یہ تھی کہ دنیا کی عارضی حقیقت کو پہچانا جاتا اور اس کے بعد کی زندگی کے لیے تیاری کی جاتی۔


یا اللہ! تو رحمان ہے، سب سے زیادہ رحم کرنے والا۔ ہمارے دلوں کو تیری تنبیہوں سے غافل نہ ہونے دے۔ ہمیں آگ اور اس کے عذاب سے بچا لے۔ ہمیں ان لوگوں میں شامل فرما جو قیامت کے دن تیری رحمت کے سائے میں ہوں گے۔ ہمارے دلوں کو سچائی کو پہچاننے اور ایسی زندگی گزارنے کی ہدایت دے جو تجھے پسند ہو۔ آمین۔

Eid shopping...aaaarrrgghh!!
Living in a country with a majority Muslim population has its huge advantages but when it comes to Eid, 
shopping is a nightmare! In that huge crowd, its not easy to find anyone. Somehow, my husband and I always manage spot each other in the crowd. For me, its his tall figure and his fair complexion which is a shade or two fairer than the general population of Malays here.

In Surah As Saaffaat; the people of Jannah will ask after family and friends they do not see in Jannah. They will be given a view of them in the Fire, and they will recognise and spot them. Surah Ar Rahmaan describes how the evil people will be recognised by their appearance.

SubhanAllah. 

As we recognise good and evil in this world 
As we do good and stay away from evil
As we spread good and forbid evil

We ask Allah SWT that this scene not be shown to us,
We ask Allah SWT to save the entire Ummah from the Fire,
We ask Allah SWT to unite the entire Ummah in His Jannah

The fire rains down like molten brass, scorching every part of me. I try to shield myself, but there is no escape. The sky, the earth, the very air feels hostile. It strikes me then: I had been warned. I heard those words many times before, about a Day when the heavens would split, the earth would tremble, and accountability would be inescapable. But I always dismissed them.


'On that Day, neither man nor jinn will be asked about his sin' (55:39). I thought no one would notice the choices I made. My actions, my words—they felt insignificant, hidden. But here, it’s all out in the open. The Day doesn’t demand questions; the very air around me bears witness.


'The guilty will be recognized by their marks' (55:41). I see them—others like me. Their faces are downcast, their expressions heavy with regret. I feel the weight of my own deeds, pressing down on me. There’s no pretending, no denial anymore. The choices I made in the dunya have carved their marks on me for all to see.


'This is the Hell which the guilty denied' (55:43). Yes, I denied it. Repeatedly. I told myself I was too intelligent to believe in 'myths.' I drowned out the warnings with distractions. But this—this is no myth. The fire isn’t distant anymore. Its roar fills my ears, its heat suffocates me.


I remember hearing these verses in passing once, thinking them poetic but exaggerated: 'If you are able to pass beyond the regions of the heavens and the earth, then do so… but you will not pass except by authority' (55:33). I lived my life like I had that authority, as if I could evade accountability forever. But now, I understand the futility of it all. No amount of power or intellect can outrun Allah’s justice.


Reflecting on these ayahs, I realize how much mercy Allah offered me in the dunya, even when I ignored Him. He sent countless reminders—through the Quran, through the Prophet ﷺ, through the beauty and order of creation itself. Even my moments of doubt and discomfort were signs pushing me to question my path, but I refused to listen.


I think of the words of the Prophet ﷺ: 'The intelligent one is the one who takes account of himself and works for what is to come after death' (Tirmidhi). How foolish I was to think that life was meant for indulgence alone. The real intelligence was in recognizing the temporary nature of this world and preparing for what came after.


Ya Allah, You are Ar-Rahman, the Most Merciful. Do not let our hearts grow heedless of Your reminders. Protect us from the fire and its torment. Make us among those who are shaded by Your mercy on the Day when no shade will remain. Guide our hearts to recognize the truth and to live a life that pleases You. Ameen.

The Quran should be approached with sincerity and a pure heart, as it serves as a source of guidance for some while others may not grasp its deeper meanings. 
A clear example of this can be found in Surah Rahman (55:35-45), where Allah speaks about Hell and punishment, framing them as part of His divine plan and even as favors to humanity:

35. 'There will be sent upon you flames of fire and molten brass, and you will not be able to defend yourselves.'
36. 'Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?'
37. 'When the sky is torn apart and becomes red like molten oil.'
38. 'Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?'
39. 'On that Day, no one will be asked about their sins—neither men nor jinn.'
40. 'Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?'
41. 'The guilty will be recognized by their marks, and they will be seized by their forelocks and feet.'
42. 'Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?'
43. 'This is the Hell that the criminals denied.'
44. 'They will move between Hellfire and boiling water.'
45. 'Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?'

At first glance, it may seem odd to call such punishment a favor, but it depends on how one views the Quran—whether through the eyes of a believer or a non-believer.
To a non-believer, these verses might appear harsh or contradictory. However, to a believer, they represent divine justice. The punishment of Hell ensures that those who oppressed, persecuted, and wronged the believers will be held accountable. In this light, Hell is seen as a necessary retribution, a sign that evildoers will not escape justice.

The Quran itself points out that it serves different purposes for different people. For some, it is a guide, while for others, it leads them further astray:
* [Quran 17:82] 'We send down in the Quran healing and mercy for the believers, but it only increases the wickedness of the transgressors.'
* [Quran 17:45-46] 'When you read the Quran, We place a barrier between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter. We place veils on their hearts and deafness in their ears, so they do not understand.'
Believers are also advised to seek protection from Satan before reading the Quran:
* [Quran 16:98] 'When you recite the Quran, seek Allah’s protection from Satan, the rejected one.'
Additionally, the Quran emphasizes that only those who are spiritually pure can truly comprehend its deeper meanings:
* [Quran 56:79] 'None touch it except the purified.'
This concept of spiritual purity goes beyond physical cleanliness. It involves purifying one’s heart and mind. As Al-Ghazali notes in The Revival of the Religious Sciences, just as physical purity is needed to touch the Quran’s pages, spiritual purity is required to understand its true meanings:
'Just as the external side of the leather of a Quranic codex is protected from being touched by someone impure, so too its internal meaning is veiled from the inner mind of the reader unless they are spiritually purified.'
This interpretation, as explained in The Study Quran, shows that understanding the Quran's wisdom is a privilege granted to those who approach it with reverence and a pure heart.
