 أَلْهَىٰكُمُ ٱلتَّكَاثُرُ

(معلومات کی) کثرت نے تمہیں ہلاک کر دیا

آج کے دور میں انسان کو مسئلہ ہے معلومات کی کثرت کا۔

آج کسی بھی سرچ انجن یا سوشل میڈیا ایپ میں ایک لفظ یا جملہ لکھیں،
اور لمحوں میں معلومات کا ایک سمندر سامنے آ جاتا ہے۔
مگر اس سمندر میں ایک بڑی خرابی یہ ہے کہ
یہاں صحیح اور غلط، مستند اور غیر مستند،
علم اور گمان—سب کچھ بلا تفریق موجود ہوتا ہے۔
اور یہی اس دور کا سب سے بڑا المیہ ہے۔

خود تشخیصی (Self-diagnosis) کی کثرت

اگر کسی کو ذرا سا وہم ہو جائے کہ اسے کوئی خطرناک بیماری لاحق ہے،
تو بس سرچ کرنے کی دیر ہے۔
کوئی نہ کوئی ویب سائٹ، بلاگ یا ویڈیو یہ “ثابت” کر دے گی
کہ وہ نہ صرف بیمار ہے بلکہ شاید لاعلاج بھی ہو چکا ہے۔

پھر اگر کوئی مستند معالج یہ بتائے کہ معاملہ سنجیدہ نہیں،
تو مریض کے ذہن میں فوراً خیال آتا ہے
کہ شاید ڈاکٹر سے تشخیص میں غلطی ہو گئی ہے—
آخر انٹرنیٹ پر جھوٹ تو نہیں لکھا ہوتا!

یوں معلومات کی کثرت نے علم کے بجائے
بے یقینی اور خوف کو جنم دیا ہے۔

خود علاجی (Self-medication) کی کثرت

اس کی دوسری انتہا خود علاجی ہے۔
آن لائن علاج کے ایسے ایسے طریقے بیان کیے جاتے ہیں
جن کی نہ سائنسی بنیاد ہوتی ہے
اور نہ ہی ان کی افادیت ثابت شدہ ہوتی ہے۔

کہیں ذیابیطس کے مریضوں کو انسولین چھوڑنے کا مشورہ دیا جاتا ہے،
کہیں دل کے مریضوں کو آپریشن سے “ہمیشہ کے لیے” بچانے کے دعوے ہوتے ہیں،
کہیں دمے کے مریضوں کو انہیلر ترک کرنے کی تلقین کی جاتی ہے۔

نتیجہ اکثر یہ نکلتا ہے کہ
بیماری سے جان چھڑانے کی کوشش میں
انسان جان ہی سے ہاتھ دھو بیٹھتا ہے۔

حال ہی میں برطانوی اخبار دی گارڈین نے کئی مثالیں پیش کیں ہیں جن میں گوگل کے اے آئی اوورویوز نے نفسیاتی بیماریوں اور کھانے کی خرابیوں کے بارے میں بھی خطرناک اور غلط مشورے دیے۔ ماہرین نے کہا کہ یہ معلومات نہ صرف غلط ہیں بلکہ لوگوں کو مدد لینے سے روک سکتی ہیں۔
 سرچ نتائج میں اس طرح کی غلط معلومات لوگوں کی صحت کے لیے سنگین خطرہ ہیں۔

روحانی بیماریوں میں معلومات کی کثرت

یہ مسئلہ صرف جسمانی بیماریوں تک محدود نہیں۔
روحانی اور دینی معاملات میں بھی صورتحال کم سنگین نہیں۔

جھوٹی احادیث کی کثرت،
پسند کے مطابق فتوے،
اور فالوورز بڑھانے کے لیے دین کو آسان یا “دلچسپ” بنا کر پیش کرنا—
ان سب نے دین پر عمل کرنے کے بجائے
دین کو اپنے اعمال کا جواز بنانے کا ذریعہ بنا دیا ہے۔

یوں درست اور غلط میں تمیز کیے بغیر
معلومات کی ارزانی اور فراوانی
انسان کو جسمانی ہی نہیں بلکہ روحانی طور پر بھی
ہلاکت کے قریب لے آئی ہے۔

حل کیا ہے؟

جب انسان علم کے بجائے گمان، اور تحقیق کے بجائے سہولت کو اختیار کر لیتا ہے تو اللہ صاف راستہ بتا دیتا ہے:

> فَسۡئَلُوۡۤا اَہۡلَ الذِّکۡرِ  اِنۡ کُنۡتُمۡ  لَا  تَعۡلَمُوۡنَ ﴿ۙ۴۳
(اگر تم نہیں جانتے تو اہلِ علم سے پوچھو)
— سورۃ النحل: 43

انٹرنیٹ کی ایجاد سے پہلے بھی
میڈیکل سائنس کی کتابیں دستیاب تھیں،
مگر کوئی سمجھدار انسان
ڈاکٹر کے پاس جانے کے بجائے
کتاب پڑھ کر اپنا علاج خود نہیں کرتا تھا۔

بالکل یہی معاملہ دین کا بھی ہے۔

بحیثیت مسلمان ہماری ذمہ داری ہے کہ
ہم قرآن و حدیث کو سمجھنے کی کوشش کریں،
اہلِ علم سے رہنمائی لیں،
اور اپنی زندگی کو دین کے مطابق ڈھالیں—
نہ کہ دین کو اپنی خواہشات کے مطابق موڑ لیں۔

علم نعمت ہے،
مگر بے لگام معلومات آزمائش بن جاتی ہیں۔

اللہ تعالیٰ نے انسان کو علم کی نعمت عطا کی، مگر ساتھ ہی حد اور طریقہ بھی سکھایا۔
قرآن ہمیں یاد دلاتا ہے کہ ہر سنی سنائی بات علم نہیں ہوتی اور ہر دستیاب معلومات قابلِ اتباع نہیں ہوتی۔

> وَلَا تَقْفُ مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِ عِلْمٌ ۚ إِنَّ السَّمْعَ وَالْبَصَرَ وَالْفُؤَادَ كُلُّ أُولَٰئِكَ كَانَ عَنْهُ مَسْئُولًا
(اور جس چیز کا تمہیں علم نہیں، اس کے پیچھے نہ پڑو، یقیناً کان، آنکھ اور دل—ان سب کے بارے میں سوال کیا جائے گا)
— سورۃ الإسراء: 36

یہی قرآن کا مزاج ہے:
علم ہو مگر توازن کے ساتھ،
معلومات ہوں مگر تحقیق کے ساتھ،
اور رہنمائی ہو مگر اہلِ علم کے ذریعے۔

ورنہ انجام وہی ہوتا ہے جس کی خبر قرآن پہلے ہی دے چکا ہے—

کثرت نے تمہیں ہلاک کر دیا۔

تمہیں کثرت مال کی ہوس نے غافل کر دیا یہاں تک کے تم قبروں میں جا پہنچیے 
اللہ اکبر جنجورنےوالی آیتیں ہیں ساری ذندگی دنیا کے لیے کھپا دیتا ہے انسان مگر سب چھوڑ کر چلا جاتا ہے

قرآن ریفلیکٹ میں خوش آمدید۔ امید ہے آپ لکھتی رہیں گی۔ ان شاءاللہ
جزاکِ اللہ خیرا کثیرا

سورہ تکاثر کی ابتدائی آیات ہمیں بتاتی ہیں:


'دنیا میں زیادتی کی حرص نے تمہیں غافل کر دیا ہے، یہاں تک کہ تم  قبروں تک پہنچ گئے ہو۔' (102:1-2)


یہ آیات ہمیں یاد دلاتی ہیں کہ انسان دنیا کی چیزوں میں اتنا مگن ہو جاتا ہے کہ وہ اپنی اصل حقیقت اور مقصد بھول جاتا ہے۔ یہاں 'زیادتی' کا مطلب صرف مال و دولت کا جمع کرنا نہیں، بلکہ ہر چیز میں 'مزید' کی طلب ہے—زیادہ کھانا، زیادہ تفریح، دنیا کی ہر چیز میں بڑھوتری کی خواہش۔ یہ ہمارے دل کو سکون دینے کی بجائے، ہمیں بے سکون کر دیتی ہیں۔


ہم اپنی خواہشات اور cravings کو پورا کرنے کی کوشش میں اتنے مگن ہو جاتے ہیں کہ ہمیں یہ نہیں دکھتا کہ ان 'زیادہ' کی طلب سے ہم روحانی طور پر خالی ہوتے جا رہے ہیں۔ جتنا زیادہ ہم دنیا کی چیزوں میں مشغول رہتے ہیں، اتنا ہی ہماری خواہشات بڑھتی جاتی ہیں اور ہم کبھی بھی مکمل طور پر مطمئن نہیں ہوتے۔


*رمضان کا مقصد*


رمضان اس 'زیادتی کی حرص' سے نکلنے کا ایک اہم ذریعہ ہے۔ رمضان ہمیں یاد دلاتا ہے کہ جب ہم دنیا کے چھوٹے چھوٹے لذتوں سے رک کر اللہ کی عبادت اور ذکر میں مشغول ہوتے ہیں، تو ہماری روح کو سکون ملتا ہے۔


روزہ ہمیں جسمانی طور پر بھوکا رکھ کر، روحانی طور پر بھی خود کو 'زیادہ' کی خواہشات سے آزاد کرنے کا موقع دیتا ہے۔


اللهم اجعل قلوبنا زاهدة في الدنيا، راغبة في الآخرة
اللہ ہمیں دنیا سے بے رغبت اور آخرت کی طرف راغب کرے۔


یہ دعا ہمیں یہ یاد دلاتی ہے کہ ہم اپنی زندگی میں دنیا کی حرص اور خواہشات کو کم کریں اور آخرت کی طرف دل سے راغب ہوں، جہاں کا سکون اور کامیابی ہمیشہ کے لیے ہے

This Surah teaches that people often spend their whole lives chasing money and wealth. They keep wanting more and more, and this becomes their main focus until they die.

But after death, they realize that real success was not about wealth; it was about something greater. Sadly, by then, it’s too late to change anything.

In fact, the more wealth a person has, the more they will be questioned about how they earned it and how they used it. Yet, many people wrongly believe that having more money means they are successful.

The Surah reminds us that worldly things are temporary, and true success lies in what benefits us in the hereafter.

Surah At-Takathur gently interrupts the rhythm of a world that is always moving faster.

In modern life everything seems to accelerate — numbers grow, careers climb, notifications multiply, ambitions stretch further ahead. It often feels like standing in the middle of a crowd that has already started running.

But the Qur’an pauses the moment and asks a quiet question:

Running toward what?

The danger is not effort or striving. The danger is becoming absorbed in a race whose finish line keeps moving, until life itself quietly reaches its end.

One day the noise of comparison will fall silent. 
The numbers will stop mattering. 
The rankings will disappear.

The Qur’an pauses the movement and asks a deeper question.
What if much of what we are gathering is like stones in a traveler’s bag — things that make the journey heavier without bringing us closer to the destination?

Because one day the road itself will end, and the only things that will truly matter are not what we carried, but what we became along the way.

Subhan Allah Al-Atheem, I'm thinking about my journey with this surah, and specifically this verse. Memorizing this as a child, you couldn't have asked me what الهاكم means. In fact, I distinctly remember being the under the impression that the first two letters here (ال) was لام التعريف, leading me to incorrectly interpret this word as a noun.

Now, having understood it as an adult, and having reflected more upon it over the past few months, I'm realizing just how profound this first verse is. التكاثر is such a broad term for increase or excess in worldly possessions. This makes me think about how perfectly eternal the messages of the Noble Quran are. This verse was perfect for the disbelievers at the time of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) for whom money, riding beasts, and children were the biggest preoccupations and sources of worldly delusion. And it is as perfect today in our hyper-consumeristic, technologically saturated, diversion-filled world. We are so concerned with our studies and jobs and incomes and clothes and cars and spouses and children and mindless entertainment and other people's private lives (celebrities, influencers...). We are completely distracted from our true purpose.

The next verse breaks all of that with the deafening blow of the reality check we hate most: we will all die one day, and we will never know when that hour will come. How meaningless do all of the aforementioned preoccupations seem now with the reality of death looming so closely behind us? How foolish do we all seem now to let these temporary, fleeting pleasure of the world divert us from our true purpose here?

A true wake up call, and something to reflect upon again and again and again and again. Subhan Allah!

'The competition for more distracts you'.
The surah is so profound that every time I read it, I am struck with a deep desire to question myself - what am I distracted by? What blessings will I be questioned about? The end of the surah tells us that we will most certainly be asked about 'na'eem' which translates to 'a state of living in blessing', implying that this includes the small and multitudes of blessings that we enjoy on a daily basis.

لو أن لابن آدم واديًا من ذهب أحب أن يكون له واديان، ولن يملأ فاه إلا التراب، ويتوب الله على من تاب

Hadith of the Prophet PBUH - if Bani Adam (a person) had a valley full of gold, (s)/he would desire/ pursue a second valley full of gold; and nothing will fulfil/fill him/her up until he is buried in the earth. And Allah forgives the one who repents.

I truly am convinced that capitalism has caused people to desire a certain lifestyle which is so unachievable, in a way that we will be constantly chasing materialistic gains. This then busies people so much to the point that we don’t have the time or energy to think critically about the world that we live in. Literally, as the Quran says, this race to get more and more (takaathur) has distracted you (alhaakum)!!

To the point that engaging with the Quran is something people claim that they have no time or energy for.... when that should be one's main focus and priority, not the pursuit of more and more…

In this ayah, Allah is talking about the distraction of worldly gains like wealth and power. But in reality, we're distracted all the time. Little things distract us and we don't even realise it sometimes.

I had a bit of an awkward/ embarrassing moment today which made me feel a bit uncomfortable and I wanted to erase it from my memory. As the day passed by, I kept thinking: 'Why am I thinking about this so much, it's literally does not matter and such a waste of my time to think about.'
 And then I realised that we all have uncomfortable/awkward moments, and we get so distracted by them, that our focus shifts too much on other people and this diverts us from the remembrance of Allah. The competition for 'more gains' part in this ayah reminds me of the feelings we get when we want to appear differently to people, we feel the need to please people or change ourselves so that people like us, or accept us. But we don't need to do that, the only change we need to focus on is becoming a better servant of Allah, a better human being and believer.

This Surah focusses on the aspect that the human beings relentlessly pursue the accumulation of material wealth, driven by a ceaseless desire to amass greater riches. This fixation consumes their thoughts and actions throughout their lifetime, persisting until their final breath. However, upon departing from this world, individuals often awaken to the sobering truth that the true essence of worth lies in pursuits beyond mere material acquisition. Regrettably, this epiphany comes too late, offering no solace or redemption in the afterlife. Paradoxically, the acquisition of worldly possessions only serves to heighten one's accountability before the divine. Yet, in their folly, individuals mistakenly perceive this accumulation as a measure of success, failing to recognize the ephemeral nature of worldly gains and their consequential impact on spiritual fulfillment.

MashaAllah - A stark reminder of what lies before us. May Allah reward you for sharing!

Jostling for apparels of wealth 

This can be attributed to many of the temporary things we seek to acquire. Indeed people are not competing in wealth only - but also the end-goal to what wealth brings about: recognition, access to lifestyle and fame as these are the manifestations of wealth.  Many a millionaire has not been contented with copious amounts of wealth clawed in every second quietly in the background, this is why they venture out to be in game shows like The Apprentice or get into politics. 

Often an Islamic 'career' can bring about these things just as much as a high flying job. Where one is not remunerated but paid for the market value within the Islam industry -often funded by wealth promised to the poor by way of Zakat. In this case both pursuits would be competition for the low hanging fruits of this proximate and lowly plane we reside in. 

Also, academia for its own end is also a worldly pursuit that many overlook. Perhaps because the intangible, the discussion of ideas in the abstract are deemed more sophisticated than expensive watches, cars and properties -a shallow person’s enterprise. Within these circle I’ve found people unwilling to discuss and act on the basics of faith because 

a) it is not intellectually stimulating enough. Faith is for those simple people while philosophical indulgences are for the elite. 

b) because it doesn’t give them the opportunity to jostle with the people to be seen more, known more and display how brainier they are than others i.e the diversions one seeks through competition is not satiated. 

Anything, even knowledge, can be a means to gather and compete -an academic acting on his base hunter gatherer instinct getting more accreditations than needed to best others while neglecting basics of the Deen like being just, seeking unity of the Ummah and protecting the pristine religion from other than Islam. Wealth knowledge and power are the three intersecting circles that require balance -without which we are lifeless brutes diverted from the real of focus of pleasing Allah (swa) and serving His creation.
