The Qur'an is a book that describes itself. There is no other book that I have read or know of that describes itself in a manner with which the Qur'an speaks of its own uniqueness and eloquence. What is even more remarkable is that the Qur'an speaks of yet another glorious book in equally magnanimous and beautiful praiseful attributes—the Torah.

It is unfortunate that today what we mostly hear or talk about is the antagonism between the Muslims and Jews. So next time you have a discussion with a Jewish colleague, neighbor or friend, this could be a excellent source for an ice breaker.

Today I watched the TV series for so long, from morning to Duhr time. I was feeling guilty, but I let the feeling go and was regretting it later that I had wasted my time and it's not going to work for me in akhirah, so....,i opened the Quran, and started reading from where I left  [Surah Baqarah: 47]. Allah says, "O Bani Israel, remember My blessings on you," and I felt that Allah was saying this to me, "Eman, remember the blessings of your Lord on you." Then Allah says, "Fear the day when nobody will be of any use to anyone, nor will anything in exchange be accepted." "I felt Allah was saying to me to recall that day for keeping yourself away from the thing that wouldn't benefit you that day. Then Allah says, "And remember the day when we freed you from the Pharaoh..." It was Allah saying to me, "Remember the day I freed you from your desires and guided you towards Me, and before that you were lost." Then, in verse 50, Allah said, "We parted the sea for you..." i felt Allah is saying, "I made the impossible possible for you and freed you from the habits you thought you could never leave." In verse 51, I felt Allah was saying to me, "You act wrongfully," and in verse 52, "I still forgave you." In verse 53, I felt it was the Quran, and in verse 54, I felt Allah was saying, "Ask for forgiveness; I will forgive you, as asking for forgiveness is better than regretting."

What Is Returned To
Reading Surah Al-Baqarah (2:53–54) through the Hadith

There are moments when you begin to feel the weight of what you know was not right—
when something from the past settles more heavily than before,
and you recognize it as your own.
And in such moments,
what does it mean to return?

وَإِذْ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْفُرْقَانَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَهْتَدُونَ
“And [recall] when We gave Musa the Scripture and the criterion that perhaps you would be guided.” (2:53)
Guidance is given—clear, defined.
Not only a way out, but a way to see;
something placed before them so that what had been unclear
would no longer remain as it was.
And yet, it does not remain there.

وَإِذْ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوْمِهِۦ يَـٰقَوْمِ إِنَّكُمْ ظَلَمْتُمْ أَنفُسَكُم بِٱتِّخَاذِكُمُ ٱلْعِجْلَ
“…O my people, indeed you have wronged yourselves by taking the calf…” (2:54)
What had taken place is named directly—
not softened, not set aside—
but brought into the open as it is.

Then, without delay, the call is given:
فَتُوبُوا إِلَىٰ بَارِئِكُمْ
“So turn in repentance to your Creator…” (2:54)
Not a turning away,
but a returning—
back to the One who created,
and from whom what remains open
has not been closed.

It is perhaps here that another account is recalled—
one the Prophet ﷺ shared in Madinah,
among people who carried questions about what had already passed in their lives,
and whether return was still possible after it.

He spoke of a man from those before—
no name is given,
no time or place preserved—
only what he had done.

He had killed ninety-nine people.
He asked about repentance
and was directed to a devout worshipper.
He was told there was none.
And so he killed again.
A hundred.

Yet he asked once more.
And this time, he was directed to a man of knowledge.
And he was told:
وَمَنْ يَحُولُ بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَ التَّوْبَةِ؟
“And who can stand between you and repentance?”
He was then told to leave—
to step away from the place that had held him,
and to go toward a people who worship Allah.

So he set out.
But he did not reach it.
He died on the way.

The angels disputed over him—
between mercy and punishment—
until it was commanded that the earth itself be measured.
And the earth was brought closer for him,
so that he would be found nearer
to the place he had set out toward.
And he was forgiven.
— Sahih Muslim

And perhaps what remains after this
is how little is measured here as one might expect—

not the weight of what had been done,
and not the distance that still remained—
but that he turned,
and that this was enough to change where he stood.

And in that, something of the ayah begins to settle—
that return is not deferred
until everything is restored,
but begins at the moment it is answered—

فَتُوبُوا إِلَىٰ بَارِئِكُمْ

Going though these verses and reflecting on how many times the children of Israel had to be reminded of the favours of God upon them struck something in me. Why would we have these written and so detailed in the Qur'an if not to serve as a reminder and warning for us too. I applied this to my life and thought about all the things that God has done for me that I've forgotten,all the times He saved me,all the times He gave me things I didn't even ask for...Yet there are times that I don't get what I want and I become upset...I see why ingratitude is so closely linked to disbelief (May Allah save us from this) I've come across this story so many times and wondered how can they forget? But holding up the mirror today and asking how can I forget? Next steps for me:
1. Slowing down and being more mindful.
2. Resuming gratitude notes :Written or spoken.
3. Reflecting hourly,daily,weekly as often as I can
4. Pausing so I can see and appreciate.
5. Trusting that Allah will only do what's best for me.

May Allah bless us to be of those who remember the many favours He has bestowed upon us. May He fill out hearts with gratitude. May He bless us to appreciate the things we have and don't. May He save us from disbelief.
