كَانَ سَيِّئُهُ
kāna sayyiʾuhū
“The evil of all that is hateful”
Here the masculine word sayyiʾ is the subject of kāna. Since the preceding passage mentioned both commands and prohibitions, this ayah specifically condemns the latter.
كَانَ سَيِّئَةً
kāna sayyiʾatan
“All these constitute a hateful sin”
This accusative word is the predicate of kāna. This reading means that doing the prohibited acts and neglecting the commandments is a great sin.
