مُوَلِّيهَا
huwa muwallīhā
“a direction to which they turn (themselves)” or “to which He turns (them)”
This uses the active participle, and huwa refers to each person/community, or to God.
مُوَلَّاهَا
huwa muwallāhā
“a direction to which they are turned”
This uses the passive participle.

Maelezo

The two readings amount to the same meaning. The active reading points to each person’s or community’s agency in choosing their path; the passive reading alludes to the role of societal factors, etc. They may both refer to the divine action upon them, especially if the pronoun huwa in the first reading is taken to refer to God (in the previous verse “your Lord”) [al-Mahdawi].

He has revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ the Book in truth, confirming what came before it, as He revealed the Torah and the Gospel
