One of the words Allah uses to describe the one who will enter jannah is “awab” (أوَّاب)

It means someone who constantly returns, someone who is constantly turning to Allah 

These are people who constantly re-center their hearts on Allah. They are not necessarily people who never slip. But they are people who will never let themselves stray too far, never let themselves become comfortable with heedlessness, never let a mistake sit unaddressed, never let themselves even briefly feel independent of Him. They don’t worry about the size of the sin, but the greatness of the One they’ve disobeyed. They know that as the tests become more and more difficult, they can only find refuge in Him, so they turn to Him. They know that when they do good, only He permitted it and only He can continue to keep them firm upon it -- and that even in their acts of good they may fall short -- so they turn to Him. And they know that when they slip, they have a Lord who forgives every sin so long as they seek His forgiveness, so they turn to Him 

They might make a few missteps. But with every step, they’re always returning back to their Lord - just like how even after a minor disruption, a compass will always find its way back to pointing North

There’s a beautiful duaa I once heard which reflects this idea: 

اللهم أغننا بالافتقار إليك، ولا تفقرنا بالاستغناء عنك.

"O Allah, grant us (true) richness through our recognition of our complete need and poverty before You, and don’t let us be impoverished by thinking ourselves independent of You"

May Allah (swt) make us of those who constantly turn to Him and recognize our complete dependence on Him

What a beautiful reflection, barakAllahu fiyk

What I found beautiful about these verses is how God acknowledges our craving for peace in verse 34.  As humans, we crave peace in our hearts, homes, schools, communities and in our world.  God reminds us about the ultimate peace in jannah and that it will be forever - nothing will threaten it, no sickness, separation, death, etc. Not only will the people of jannah have what they asked for but they will have even more - how generous and reassuring are these verses. The key is being mindful of Allah and having a heart that constantly turning to Him and was in awe of Him. A heart that constantly turns to Allah in trials and in triumphs. May we be of them.

It’s so amazing how Allah swt repeats this idea of His mercy and rewarding those that repent right after describing a conversation with a terrifyingly hungry jahanam. Allah is reminding us that the same sins that get you into this place you fear are the same ones you can repent for to save yourself from it.  

A reason that might land us in jahanam may be that we’re arrogant in not believing that our actions have consequences, or it might be a doubt in Allah’s mercy that we could be even be forgiven for our sins. But Allah strikes this fear in our hearts when He personifies jahanam to remind us that this place is our enemy, and it wants us in there. However, all it takes is a sincere repenting heart to turn back to Allah to save us. That’s it: No special qualifications, no high ranks - just sincerity. 

If we could just turn to Allah and make Him our confidant, our ally, then jahanam won’t ever have to know of our names. ‏

لا إله إلا أنت سبحانك إنا كنا من الظالمين 
‏There is none worthy of worship except You. Glory 
‏ to You. Indeed we have been wrongdoers

اللهم إنك عفو تحب العفو فاعفُ عنا
Oh Allah, You are the Most Forgiving, You love forgiveness, so forgive us.
