While I stood before the mirror, my reflection appeared blurred as there were too many imprints covering its surface.

It is been told that true companion is like a mirror.He/she shows you your flaws clearly, honestly, and with sincerity.

Quran should be our best companion.It act as a mirror for us,
it reflects what is within us.Through Quran, we begin to understand ourselves.Quran exposes what is within us.It reveals what lies hidden in our hearts,like our weaknesses ,our strengths,and even our flaws like pride,arrogance,ego,jealousy etc.

Just as a stained mirror cannot reflect a clear image, a heart covered with sins and heedlessness cannot truly reflect the light of the Qur’an.If the heart is clouded, the vision becomes blurred and we may overlook it and abandon it.

To truly see what the Qur’an is reflecting,
our hearts must be clear and we have to polish regularly.

One of the greatest ways to do this is through seeking forgiveness.
With every sincere “Astaghfirullah,”
the rust is removed,
the heart softens,
and the vision becomes clearer.

Then we can read the Quran
not just with our eyes,
but with understanding, humility, and transformation.

Allahumma Innaka afuwwun tuhibbul afuwwa fa'foo annee...

In these blessed nights,
May Allah help us to increase in seeking His forgiveness and pardon.
May He purify our hearts so we can truly see, understand, and live by His Book.

Our duas need not be elaborate nor refined to perfection.  

The reality of dua is that the power of dua is not in the one making it regardless of his or her position, eloquence and which super duas he or she uses the power of it lies in the One Who receives it 

In this sense no duas go amiss, be it a single word of istighfar or a long elaborate  dua 

There maybe times when we are not in a position or cannot think of a long elaborate dua, suited for the occasion. This is when the single one word invocation of seeking forgiveness is sufficient.  

Saying أستغفر الله. 

To understand the power of this single expression let us consider the following:  

1- The benefits of istighfaar:

  Ibn Abbas (RA) reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
'Whoever consistently seeks forgiveness (Istighfar), Allah will grant him a way out of every distress, relief from every worry, and provide for him from sources he never expected.' (Reported by Abu Dawood)


   2-The power of Istighfaar. 

   It is narrated from Ibn Uyaynah, from Mutarraf, from Ash-Sha’bi, who said: 
Umar ibn Al-Khattab once went out with the people to seek rain (Istisqa'), but he did nothing except seek forgiveness (Istighfar) until he returned. The people said: 'O Leader of the Believers, we did not see you supplicate for rain!'
 He replied: 'I sought rain through the 'majādīh' (keys) of the heavens by which rain is brought down.'
 Then he recited:  'Seek forgiveness from your Lord, for He is ever Forgiving. He will send down abundant rain upon you, and provide you with wealth and children.' (Surah Nuh: 10-12)
 'Seek forgiveness from your Lord, then turn to Him in repentance. He will send down rain upon you in abundance and increase you in strength upon your strength.' (Surah Hud: 52)


This beautiful narration highlights how Umar (RA) understood that seeking forgiveness (Istighfaar) is a means of attracting divine blessings, including rain, wealth, and strength. This powerful example of Omar RA.  teaches us that repentance opens the doors to Allah’s mercy and provision.    Istighfar is not merely seeking forgiveness. it is a key to ease, relief, and unanticipated blessings in life. By making constant repentance a habit, we invite Allah’s mercy, open doors to solutions, and receive provisions in ways beyond our imagination.

May Allah make us among those who seek His forgiveness abundantly.

What is it about istighfar (seeking forgiveness) from Allah that it can unlock so many blessings as mentioned in this verse including being showered with abundant rain, wealth, children, garden and rivers ? 

Perhaps it's the idea of cultivating a feeling of constant return, awe, and love for Allah: 

'I'm coming back to you ya Rab, over and over again,

I want to be close to you, 

Please forgive me, 

Please accept me with all of my shortcomings,

Please shower your love upon me,

Please let me devote my heart sincerely for you and only you'.

As the year nears to an end, many of us may be reassessing the year and planning for next year. It's interesting how studies have shown that 80% of new year resolutions fail. And while there is a plethora of advice on how to make and achieve new year resolutions more successfully, these two verses came to mind for me.

While we can take the time to assess and plan, and do all we can within our means to achieve our goals, what if our hearts and minds were in a constant state of gratitude and seeking forgiveness ? 

What if instead of constantly focusing on wanting more, we’re cognizant that in these verses God promises a multitude of blessings for those seeking forgiveness - including abundant rain, wealth and children ? 

What if instead of being sad for what we don't have, we’re mindful and grateful at the countless blessings we are granted ? 

Seeking forgiveness and maintaining a gratitude mindset can keep us grounded and humble regardless of the highs and lows we may experience in Sha Allah. 

It can open doors we thought were long closed and it can ease that which we thought was going to be difficult in Sha Allah.
