One of the things that amazes me most about the Qur’an is this:

Allah rarely removes a difficulty before it reaches its peak.

He lets the sea stand before Musa (AS).

He lets the flood rise around Nuh (AS).

He lets Maryam (AS) labour alone beneath the palm tree.

He lets Ibrahim (AS) be thrown into the fire.

And only then does He say,

“Be.”

Sometimes I wonder whether this is why we overthink.

We see the sea. Allah sees the path through it.

We see the flood. Allah knows exactly when the earth will swallow its water and the skies will withhold their rain.

We see endings. Allah sees beginnings.

Perhaps that is why Allah tells us:

“And whoever puts their trust in Allah, then He is sufficient for them...” (65:3)

Not because the road will always be easy.

But because the One writing the road has never lost control of it.

The Day of Ashura reminds us of this beautifully. It is the day on which Allah saved Musa (AS) and the believers from Pharaoh by parting a sea, that moments before had looked impossible to cross.

Many scholars also relate Ashura to the completion of Nuh’s (AS) deliverance after the flood, when Allah commanded:

“O earth, swallow your water, and O sky, withhold [your rain].” (11:44)

Think about that for a moment.

The same earth that had become a source of destruction became a means of salvation the moment Allah commanded it.

Nothing in creation moves independently of Him.

Not the sea. Not the sky. Not the earth.

So why do I sometimes think my problems are beyond His mercy?

Why do I exhaust myself trying to predict outcomes that belong entirely to Him?

The Qur’an reminds us that planning and overthinking are not the same thing.

Planning is an act of responsibility. Just like a bird, you must go put in the work.

Overthinking though is often an attempt to control what Allah has kept for Himself.

There is a difference.

Take the means.

Tie your camel.

Study.

Apply.

Prepare.

Seek advice.

Then stop carrying tomorrow before tomorrow arrives.

Because Allah also says:

“Allah does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear.” (2:286)

That verse has become one I return to often.

Whenever life feels too heavy, I remind myself that the One who measured the burden also measured my capacity.

He has not asked me to carry more than He knows I can bear. Whenever I think that Allah has trusted me with a task, it makes me feel special. I mean, my creator feels that I am worthy enough to withstand a storm. It is simply divine.

And if the burden becomes difficult—as it sometimes does—Allah has already shown us where to turn:

“Seek help through patience and prayer.” (2:45)

Not panic.

Not endless overthinking.

Patience.

Prayer.

One of the most remarkable moments in the life of the Prophet ﷺ teaches us something entirely profound about tawakkul.

During the Hijrah, he (SAW) and Abu Bakr (RA) were hiding in the Cave of Thawr while the Quraysh searched for them.

The danger was real.

The fear was understandable.

The enemy was close enough that Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه worried they would be seen at any moment.

But the Prophet ﷺ did not respond with panic.

He did not attempt to calculate a hundred different escape routes.

Instead, he said:

“Do not grieve; indeed Allah is with us.”{9:40}

It is a statement of certainty in a moment that offered none.

And perhaps that is what tawakkul really is.

Recognizing that humans that we are, we will still fall into despair no matter how much we understand or know. The same man whose trust in Allah was unmatched taught us to seek refuge from anxiety.

He would say:

“O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and grief...”

He did not pretend anxiety did not exist.

He taught us where to place it.

And perhaps this is the lesson I need most.

Overcoming overthinking is not about never worrying.

It is about recognising the moment when planning ends and trying to control Allah’s decree begins.

Because Allah tells us:

“No disaster strikes upon the earth or within yourselves except that it is already written in a Record before We bring it into being.” (57:22)

If it is written, my worrying cannot erase it.

If it is not written, my worrying cannot create it.

Either way, worry changes nothing except the peace I have today.

There is a quote from Harry Potter that has stayed with me for years:

“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.”

Perhaps the same could be said of worry.

It does not do to dwell on tomorrow and forget the One who already holds it.

This is me talking to myself and to you.

I’m reminding myself to stop thinking so much.

To plan what I can.

To pray as much as I can.

To trust more than I fear.

And to leave tomorrow where it has always belonged—

in the hands of Allah.

I hope, through this, I have reminded you too.

The human brain is hardwired to seek certainty, patterns, and resolution and avoid ambiguity, and in psychology it's known as "need for closure" (NFC). There are some people who are extra aversive to the uncertainty or the ambiguity that naturally creeps into their minds regarding their future, whether it's a result of a divorce, job loss, a sudden illness, or whatever. The ambiguity creates a barrier and a burden for them because it starts to burn out their cognitive fuel for processing. However, the believer who firmly places his trust in Allah is protected against such negative effects, because his trust in Allah causes him to embrace the ambiguity and redirect his attention towards what Allah knows best. This allows him to find relief in uncertain and difficult times and make better decisions, because he is not wasting his mental bandwidth on things that he doesn't really know anything about. So, a believer's cognitive battery is more free and efficient because altogether it runs more on the "need for tawakkul" (NFT) than "need for closure" (NFC).

What does it mean to truly trust Allah?

Perhaps true trust is not the absence of fear or difficulty. It is a deep peace of mind in the middle of uncertainty, knowing that Allah will hold me no matter where the road leads.

It is trusting not only the destination, but also the process. Trusting the paths, the delays, the detours, and the means through which Allah unfolds His decree. Sometimes we ask Allah to change our circumstances, while Allah is using those very circumstances to change us.

All the while, Allah is refining our hearts. Softening what has become hard. Purifying what has become attached to the world. Teaching us to surrender, to obey, and to kneel before Him with humility.

The difficult moments are not always obstacles. Often, they are invitations — invitations to rely less on ourselves and more on Allah.

As Allah says:

“And whoever puts their trust in Allah, then He is sufficient for them.” (Qur’an 65:3)

Tawakkul is not simply believing that Allah can carry me. It is knowing that He already is.

And perhaps that is why a trusting heart finds peace even before the problem is solved, because its certainty rests not in the outcome, but in the One who controls every outcome.

May Allah make our hearts soft, obedient, and full of tawakkul. Ameen.

As humans, we are always trying to calculate outcomes. We want to know how things will work out before we fully trust Allah swt.

But the life of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) teaches a different level of faith.

He walked into the fire trusting Allah.
He left his wife and child in an empty desert trusting Allah.
He was even willing to sacrifice his son trusting Allah.

At every stage, logic could only see loss, uncertainty, and impossibility.
But Ibrahim (AS) knew that Allah can create ways that human mind cannot imagine and Allah swt surely fulfilled His promise.

That's what tawakkul really is:
to trust Allah so completely that you stop limiting His power to your understanding.

This Arafah, ask Allah swt for the impossible. Sometimes the greatest miracles happen when we stop limiting Allah’s power with our own understanding.

Have you ever thought about what would happen if you truly trusted Allah, did what pleases Him, and made your intention purely for His sake while also striving to grow as a person? Yet despite that, people around you may still put you down.

Alhamdulillah, by the mercy of Allah, I was able to complete the entire Qur’an last summer. As this coming summer approaches, I find myself thinking about my future wanting to choose a path that benefits both myself and those around me, and most importantly, to do it with full yaqeen (certainty) and sincere iman (faith).
But SubhanAllah, in a world full of expectations and desires, you begin to question yourself: Am I doing the right thing? Then I remind myself that whatever I strive for, I do it for Allah seeking benefit in both this dunya and the akhirah.
Never let yourself think that you are foolish for trusting Allah, or that you are “too religious.”
If the thought comes ever come to you
 Remember this: 
بَدَأَ الإِسْلَامُ غَرِيبًا وَسَيَعُودُ كَمَا بَدَأَ غَرِيبًا فَطُوبَى لِلْغُرَبَاءِ
“Islam began as something strange, and it will return to being strange as it began, so glad tidings to the strangers.”
(Sahih Muslim)

Earlier I had worked hard and tried to give my best, and still I got the results that did not reach my expectations. So again, I did the same, working hard, giving my best, but still not getting expected results. So I started doubting myself and my strengths, and when I was going to start it again, my heart was carrying the weight of past experiences. I was worrying about the future even before I started because the past experiences were haunting me and I was the one carrying them, then I came across this ayah and had tawakkul on Al-Qadir, the one capable of everything. 

Alhamdulillah, I got up again with a fresh, confident, entrusted mind.

It’s my second time reading the Qur’an as a new convert.
I completed it for the first time at the end of my first Ramadan, الحمد لله 
This time feels different.
Less about finishing, more about entering.
Less about understanding everything, more about being present with it.
Sharing a few reflections from a journey that continues to quietly transform me. 

I did not begin this journey by trying to understand the order of the Qur’an.
At first, I was simply reading — slowly, sometimes uncertainly, sometimes with pauses between verses that felt longer than the verses themselves. I would sit with a surah, reflect on it, write a few lines, and move on. Each surah felt like its own world, complete and self-contained.

But something subtle kept happening.
A feeling that what came after was somehow responding to what came before.
I couldn’t explain it — not intellectually, not yet. 
Only later did I come across this idea in the introduction of Al-Suyuti’s work: that the arrangement of the Qur’an might itself be توقيفي (tawqīfī — divinely determined, not based on human reasoning).
And suddenly, what I had felt began to take form as something real.

Not Just Words — But Placement
The Qur’an says:
﴿ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُ وَقُرْآنَهُ ﴾ (Inna ‘alaynā jam‘ahu wa qur’ānahu — Indeed, upon Us is its collection and its recitation) — Surah al-Qiyāmah (75:17)
Before, I used to read this as preservation — that Allah gathered the Qur’an so it would not be lost.
But now, جمع (jam‘ — collection, gathering) began to feel different.
Not just gathered — but placed. Arranged. Almost like how notes in music are not simply written, but composed.

The First Step: Asking for Guidance
When I first reflected on Surah الفاتحة (al-fātiḥah — the Opening), it felt like a quiet beginning.
A request. A vulnerability.
﴿ اهْدِنَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ ﴾ (Ihdinā aṣ-ṣirāṭ al-mustaqīm — Guide us to the straight path 1:6)
At the time, I wrote in my notes: This feels like standing at the beginning of something unknown.

And then came Surah البقرة (al-baqarah — the Cow):
﴿ ذَٰلِكَ الْكِتَابُ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ هُدًى لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ ﴾ (Dhālika al-kitābu lā rayba fīhi hudan lil-muttaqīn — This is the Book… a guidance for the God-conscious 2:2)
It didn’t feel like a coincidence.
It felt like an answer.
Not immediate, not overwhelming — but calm, assured.
As if the Qur’an was saying: You asked. Now walk.

A Book You Don’t Just Read — You Enter
There is a verse:
﴿ كِتَابٌ أُحْكِمَتْ آيَاتُهُ ﴾ (Kitābun uḥkimat āyātuhu — A Book whose verses are perfected) — Surah Hūd (11:1)
إحكام (iḥkām — precision, firmness, perfect arrangement)
But I began to feel that this precision is not only in the verses themselves, but in how they are placed next to each other.
Sometimes, when moving from one surah to another, I would feel a shift:
-from intensity to calm
-from warning to mercy
-from vast stories to something deeply personal

At first, I thought: this is just how reading works. But later, I wondered:
What if these transitions are meant and the Qur’an is not a collection of separate messages — but a مسار (masār—a path, a journey) you are being guided through?

When Separation Speaks
One of the most striking ideas while reading Imam Al-Ghazali's book  introduction is that even when surahs seem similar, they are sometimes not placed together.
From a human perspective, it would be more “logical” to group them.
But the Qur’an does not always follow what feels logical.
And that, strangely, made it feel more intentional.
The Qur’an says:
﴿ لِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدْرٌ ﴾ (Likulli shay’in qadar — Everything has a precise measure) — Surah al-Ṭalāq (65:3)
Even distance.
Even sequence.
Even delay.

There were moments in my reading where I didn’t understand why I was reading a certain surah at that time.
It didn’t seem to connect to what I had just read.
But then — sometimes much later — something would click.
A meaning would return.
A verse would echo.
And I would realize:
It was not random. It was just… not immediate.

Pairs That Feel Like Continuation
When I reflected on Surah الضحى (aḍ-ḍuḥā — the Morning Light), it felt like a gentle reassurance:
﴿ مَا وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَمَا قَلَىٰ ﴾
That after emptiness, there is care - 93:3.
Then Surah الشرح (ash-sharḥ — the Expansion):
﴿ فَإِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا ﴾ (Fa-inna ma‘a al-‘usri yusrā — Indeed, with hardship comes ease- 94:4)
Not a new message — but a continuation.
Like the same voice, speaking again, a little deeper.
And this is where the idea of نظم (naẓm — coherence, harmonious arrangement) becomes something you don’t just study — you feel.

The Qur’an as Something Complete
Another verse stayed with me:
﴿ الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ ﴾ (Al-yawma akmaltu lakum dīnakum — Today I have perfected your religion for you) — Surah al-Mā’idah (5:3)
أكملت (akmaltu — I have perfected, completed)
If the religion is complete — then the Qur’an, its core, is also complete.
Not only in message. But in form. In order. In structure.

And this realization brought something unexpected:
A kind of stillness.
Because it means:
I am not reading something in progress.
I am stepping into something that is already whole.

Final Reflection
Before this, reading The Qur’an for the first time, I used to approach it as something I needed to understand.
Now, when reading it for the second time, I began to approach it as something I need to move through.
Step by step.
Surah by surah.
Not rushing.
Not rearranging.
Not questioning why this comes before that.
But trusting that:
Just as every verse has its place — every moment of reading does too.
And maybe…
just like the Qur’an is arranged with precision إحكام (iḥkām — perfect arrangement), my own journey through it is being arranged in ways I don’t yet see.

There is a quiet shift that happens when you begin to see the Qur’an this way:
You stop asking, “Why is this here?”
And begin to ask, “Why am I here, at this point, with this surah?”
And that question…
feels like the beginning of a different kind of reading.

I haven't posted anything for some time, but insha'Allah I am happy to come back and continue sharing my reflections during this Ramadan and beyond (although it won't be as frequent as before). So, I wanted to start with a little self-reflection.

I have noticed that there's a pattern that manifests in my own life and in different areas; it was in my school/academic years, in my past marriage, and recently in my career as well.

There's a certain point of success and stability in my life where I start thinking to myself, "Alhamdulillah, everything is good and settled now. I have a good handle of this, I've been doing this for a long time, and so nothing can go wrong this time." And then, strangely, something unexpected happens, oftentimes a moment of failure and sometimes even disappointment.

It seems that after a period of perceived stability, I inevitably start moving towards an edge where there is, shall we say, more unpredictably, chaos, and instability - but also more opportunity for growth - like I have been pushed into something different and unknown. Sometimes I don't care too much, and sometimes it does depress me a little bit. Sometimes it's because of my own mistake, and sometimes it's something that I had no control over.

However, I think that moments of failure and disappointed are just as important as moments of success and happiness in our lives if not more. Such moments have acted as events that pushed me out of a state of "normalcy addiction" into a rather "spiritual escape" - that is to say, the routine and normal things that I've enjoyed doing gets disrupted, but that's a good thing, because that gives me more time to reflect on myself, understand myself better, and simultaneously it strengthens my trust in Allah SWT.

It's like falling off a high cliff, but the landing is much more beautiful and miraculous. The "landing" is beautiful in the sense that, whatever has happened to me, I am able to remember that this was already Allah's plan for me but I just didn't know it beforehand, that only Allah knows what's best for me, so it is Him that I should put my complete trust and reliance on.

"And put your trust in Allah, for Allah alone is sufficient as a Trustee of Affairs." (33:3)

I want to reflect on one of the greatest women in Islam, Hajar (radiyallahu ‘anha), and the legacy she left behind.

Imagine her situation: alone in a barren valley, with no water, no people, no security, and an infant in her arms.

Yet the tawakkul she carried shakes the heart.

The only question she asked Ibrahim (alayhis-salam) was, “Did Allah command you to do this?”

When he replied yes, she said, “Then He will not abandon us.”

SubhanAllah. What certainty. What strength. That was not weakness. That was a heart firmly anchored in Allah.

She ran seven times between Safa and Marwah. She did not sit in despair. She moved. She struggled. But she moved with trust, knowing that Allah would never abandon her.

And Allah responded to her tawakkul with Zamzam, a miracle that continues to flow until today.

But the miracle did not stop there.

From that barren valley came a city. From that city came a lineage. From that lineage came Prophets. And centuries later, Allah chose from her descendants our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

SubhanAllah.

The more I reflect on her story, the more I question the state of our tawakkul today.

Some people ask, “Why did she have to go through all of that?”

But she went through it because Allah chose her to be among the greatest women of this world.

The women whom Allah elevates to the highest ranks are not chosen randomly. They are prepared through tests, through endurance, through sacrifice.

And no one has the right to question the decree of Allah by saying, “Why do women have to go through so much in Islam?”

The greatest women of Islam went through immense trials precisely because Allah chose them for greatness.

If you look around today, what kind of tests has Allah placed upon us? Have we been left in a barren desert with an infant and no water? Have we been burdened the way the greatest women of Islam were burdened?

Allah knows the condition of our hearts. He knows what we can carry and what we cannot.

So when you feel that your problem is the biggest problem in the world, revisit the lives of the greatest women of Islam. Reflect on their endurance. Reflect on their certainty. Reflect on their tawakkul.

This story also forces us to recognize the immense role of a mother.

A mother is not merely raising a child. She is shaping hearts, preserving values, protecting futures, and influencing generations she may never live to see.

One woman’s certainty in Allah changed the history of a city.

Imagine what would happen if mothers today rose with that same purpose.

But look at our valley.

We do not live in a desert of sand. We live in a desert of distraction.

Our children are not threatened by thirst. They are threatened by endless scrolling. Not by isolation, but by overexposure. Not by survival, but by trends, likes, virality, and overwhelming fitnah.

We are threatened by chasing influence, by needing validation, by sacrificing values for acceptance, and by careers pursued at the cost of religion.

Motherhood is sometimes portrayed as a burden, while modesty is mocked and haya is treated as outdated.

This narrative affects hearts before they even become mothers.
Instead of building legacies, many fear the responsibility of carrying one.

It is not a plaything to attain the level of certainty Hajar (radiyallahu ‘anha) had. It requires endurance, patience, and deep trust in Allah.

Teach your children haya. Teach them that openly romanticizing zina corrupts hearts. Guard your daughter’s dignity more than her popularity. Guard your son’s taqwa more than his social status.

Our valley today is our living room.

What we plant there may echo through centuries.

So what legacy are we leaving behind?

This reflection truly makes the heart pause. The way you connected Hajar’s tawakkul to our modern “desert of distraction” is powerful and relevant.

You beautifully showed that trust in Allah is not passive. She ran, she struggled, and Allah responded. That balance between effort and reliance is a lesson we desperately need today.

Your reminder about legacy and motherhood is timely. Our living rooms really are our valleys. What we plant there matters.

May Allah grant us even a fraction of her certainty and make us among the patient mentioned in 2:155. Keep reflecting and sharing.

Every moment we let go in this world, we find peace in Allah’s refuge.....
We let go of so many things in this dunya… comforts, desires, even parts of ourselves, sometimes for the sake of someone we love, sometimes for fleeting attachments, sometimes simply because our hearts feel compelled. Every sacrifice, every small letting go, leaves a mark on our soul and teaches us the depth of our own feelings.
And yet, we are reminded: “And whosoever relies upon Allah, then He is sufficient for him. .... Surah At-Talaq, 65:3
The world changes, people change, and even our hearts may turn. But in letting go, in sacrificing, we learn to anchor ourselves in something eternal. We learn that nothing in this dunya is truly ours to hold, and the safest harbor, the most enduring love, is Allah’s.
“We may let go of the world for someone, but only Allah holds what is truly permanent.”
