Bismillah

When you hear the phrase "it befell him," what comes to mind first—a blessing or a hardship?

Allah ﷻ says:

"Whatever good befalls you is from Allah..." (4:79)

This life is a test. Not every gift is a favor, and not every hardship is a punishment.

Sometimes what glitters in your hands slowly leads you away from Allah, while the weight upon your shoulders becomes the very thing that draws you closer to Him.

The comfort you desired may be your trial, and the difficulty you feared may be your salvation.

Allah knows, while we do not. (2:216)

"The comfort you desired may be your trial, and the difficulty you feared may be your salvation."

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful,

Often when something very difficult enters your life, this ayah seems to cross the mind.

Fighting, giving up one’s life to Allah’s cause is a command which requires sincere and true faith. We will encounter things which we do not like, which will cause us worry and make us feel deeply uncomfortable. It might be that you have no control over what is occurring. Having little control can often be perplexing.

Yet, Allah is the One who has written our individual stories, each one different and sometimes similar. What you are going through was meant to befall you and in fact it is meant to draw you closer to Him.

Sometimes, we are left with no option but to exercise deep trust and faith; knowing the writer of our story is the Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful. During this period you will grow like never before, you will acquire strength and lessons to develop you into a sincere and strong believer. Perhaps, to detach the strings of your heart for this world but cultivating the heart to open its understanding that the next world is everlasting and where we truly belong.

Your acceptance of His divine decree, your action, prayers and steadfastness despite the upheaval might cause you to win the pleasure and love of your Generous and Protecting Lord.

What looks difficult might be your salvation. What makes you lonely and feel destitute might cause you to enter the company knowing that Allah is very close. Such an understanding is often developed when we don’t often like something. Yet,  we should know that the Creator of the Heavens and Earth has written what is truly good for us.

Develop trust, Dua, patience and conduct His remembrance. Look forward to His reward for your trust and commitment!

Today I realized something about myself that I wish I had understood years ago.

I’ve been married for six years, and if I were to describe those years, I would probably use words like hardship, disappointment, loneliness, and waiting.

I struggled with unemployment. I struggled with difficult relationships. I experienced the pain of being misunderstood, challenges with my husband, toxic in-laws, and the loneliness that comes with being a revert who lost the support of family. I also experienced the heartbreak of miscarriage.

For years, I looked at my life and saw only what was missing.

Then I began thinking about another area of my life that I had always viewed as a failure

For years, I felt ashamed of not having a stable career. I watched others move forward while I remained stuck. Every rejected application, every closed door, every opportunity that didn’t work out felt like proof that I was falling behind in life.

But today I found myself asking a different question:

What if Allah wasn’t withholding something from me?

What if He was protecting me?

Before Islam, I lived a very different life. I was involved in partying, alcohol, and environments that pulled me further away from Allah. Even after becoming Muslim, there were moments when I desperately wanted certain jobs and opportunities because I believed they would solve my problems.

But looking back now, many of those jobs would have placed me back into environments that were not good for my faith, my character, or my relationship with Allah.

One of my deepest struggles was not having a home of our own. My mother is a single mother, and for years we lived in rented houses. I worried constantly about the future. I wanted stability. I wanted security. I wanted a place that felt like ours.

But last year, my mother joined a housing scheme, and by the decree of Allah, she won a 3-bedroom house. The house is still being completed, and in shaa Allah we may receive it by the end of this year.

As I reflected on this today, I realized something that shook me.

While I was crying over what I didn’t have, Allah was already preparing something for me.

The house didn’t appear overnight.

Allah had been arranging it long before I could see it.

Then another realization hit me.

For four years, I made du’a for my mother to accept Islam.

Four years.

Sometimes I hoped.

Sometimes I cried.

Sometimes I wondered if it would ever happen.

Yet a few months ago, Allah answered that du’a and my mother took her Shahadah.

SubhanAllah.

When I look back now, I feel ashamed of how much I misunderstood my Lord.

I wasn’t seeing His mercy because I was staring too hard at my pain.

I wasn’t seeing His plan because I was focused on my timeline.

I wasn’t seeing His blessings because I was counting my disappointments.

I looked at unemployment and saw failure.

Maybe Allah was protecting me.

I looked at delays and saw rejection.

Maybe Allah was preparing something better.

I looked at being stuck and saw abandonment.

Maybe Allah was positioning me exactly where I needed to be.

The most beautiful part is that my circumstances have not changed much.

The house is not in my hands yet.

I still don’t have all the answers.

Some of my struggles still exist.

But everything feels different.

For the first time, I can look back and see threads connecting things that once made no sense.

What I called delays now look like perfect timing.

What I called failures now look like lessons.

What I called closed doors now look like protection.

And what I called unanswered prayers were often prayers that were simply waiting for their appointed time.

Today, I understand this verse differently.

“Allah knows and you do not know.”

Not as a comforting quote.

But as a reality I have lived.

If you are reading this while carrying a burden, waiting for an answer, grieving a loss, or wondering why life isn’t moving in the direction you hoped, then please remember this:

The house was being prepared long before I saw it.

My mother’s guidance was being written long before I witnessed it.

Allah was working while I was worrying.

Perhaps He is doing the same for you.

Perhaps what looks like a delay today will one day become proof of His perfect timing.
Allah knows.

We do not know.

About 2 months ago, my mom went through my phone. At the time, I was at the bottom of my iman, and I committed sin after sin. The 2 months after that were hard, really hard. My mom was very mad at the stuff she saw (understandably), and the period was very awkward. But then I realized it was the best thing that ever happened to me; it opened my eyes and put me back on the right path. Ever since then, I've been praying consistently with sunnah and reading the Quran daily. I'm slowly building trust with my mom again, and I feel refreshed ever since I cut off social media. Every day I thank Allah for making my mom go through my phone, even though it led to a very hard path.

وَعَسَىٰٓ أَن تَكْرَهُوا۟ شَيْـًۭٔا وَهُوَ خَيْرٌۭ لَّكُمْ ۖ وَعَسَىٰٓ أَن تُحِبُّوا۟ شَيْـًۭٔا وَهُوَ شَرٌّۭ لَّكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ ٢١٦

Perhaps you dislike something which is good for you and like something which is bad for you. Allah knows and you do not know.

Have you ever found yourself asking “Why?” - a question that naturally arises when life takes an unexpected turn. 

I remember the moment I didn’t get into university the first time. It caught me off guard, and I didn’t quite know how to process it. There was confusion, disappointment, and a lingering sense of uncertainty. At the time, it felt like a setback.

But Alhamdulillah, it turned out to be one of the greatest blessings in disguise.

The delay led me to experiences I never could have planned: meaningful opportunities, genuine friendships, and countless moments of growth. In ways I couldn’t see then, everything unfolded exactly as it was meant to. What I once questioned became something I now deeply appreciate.

Through that experience, I feel I’ve witnessed the meaning of this ayah come to life: that what we perceive as a loss may, in reality, be a hidden الخير.

Allah is the Ultimate Planner, knowing what we cannot see and understanding what we cannot comprehend. When we place our trust in Him, even in moments of doubt, we find a deeper sense of contentment - not because everything goes our way, but because we trust that everything unfolds with wisdom.

From Certainty to Clarity

How Surah آل عمران (Āl ʿImrān — The Family of Imran) completes what Surah البقرة (Al-Baqarah — The Cow) begins

There is a particular kind of silence that comes after certainty.
Not the silence of doubt — but the silence that asks:
Now that you know… what will you do with it?

Surah البقرة (al-Baqarah) leaves you with something vast.
A structure of belief.  A framework for living.  A map that is both complete and demanding.
But it does not resolve everything.
It cannot.
Because certainty, on its own, is not the end of the journey.
It is only the beginning of responsibility.

And this is where Surah آل عمران (Āl ʿImrān) begins.
Not as a new chapter — but as a response.

The great scholar فخر الدين الرازي (Fakhr al-Dīn al-Rāzī — 1149–1210 CE, a leading theologian, philosopher, known for his analytical and rational approach to tafsīr) observed:
“What was implicit in the beginning of al-Baqarah is made explicit in the beginning of Āl ʿImrān.”

And السيوطي (As-Suyūṭī — 1445–1505 CE, a prolific scholar of Qur’anic sciences, hadith, and Arabic rhetoric, known for systematizing the principles of Qur’anic structure and coherence) gives us the key to reading this transition:
“Every surah is an expansion of what came before it in summary.”

If that is so, then what we are witnessing is not repetition — but unfolding.
Not duplication — but completion.

From Statement to Explanation
In البقرة (al-Baqarah), the Qur’an declares with striking certainty:
﴿ ذَٰلِكَ الْكِتَابُ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ ﴾ (Dhālika al-kitābu lā rayba fīhi — This is the Book in which there is no doubt) → البقرة 2:2
But certainty invites understanding.

And so, in آل عمران (Āl ʿImrān):
﴿ نَزَّلَ عَلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ بِالْحَقِّ مُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ ﴾ (He sent down the Book in truth, confirming what came before it) → آل عمران 3:3
The claim is not repeated — it is explained.

From Unity to Nuance
What was once presented as a unified revelation now becomes layered:
﴿ مِنْهُ آيَاتٌ مُّحْكَمَاتٌ … وَأُخَرُ مُتَشَابِهَاتٌ ﴾ (Some verses are clear, others are ambiguous) → آل عمران 3:7
The Qur’an, here, teaches not only belief — but intellectual humility.

From General to Specific
Earlier revelation was once mentioned in passing:
﴿ وَمَا أُنزِلَ مِن قَبْلِكَ ﴾ (What was revealed before you) 
البقرة 2:4

Now it is named, brought into focus:
﴿ وَأَنزَلَ التَّوْرَاةَ وَالْإِنجِيلَ ﴾ (He revealed the Torah and the Gospel) → آل عمران 3:3–4
Each community addressed with precision.

The Expansion of Meaning Across the Surahs
And then, something deeper begins to appear.
Not just ideas expanding — but entire meanings unfolding across chapters.
Almost as if one surah begins a sentence… and the next one completes it.

 In البقرة (al-Baqarah), the reality of sacrifice is introduced:
﴿ وَقَاتِلُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ﴾ (Fight in the way of Allah) → 2:190
﴿ كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْقِتَالُ ﴾ (Fighting has been prescribed for you) → 2:216
But it remains general.
Then, in آل عمران (Āl Imrān), that abstraction becomes history — through the detailed unfolding of غزوة أحد (Ghazwat Uḥud — Battle of Uhud).
Law becomes lived experience.

In البقرة (al-Baqarah), the martyr is mentioned briefly:
﴿ بَلْ أَحْيَاءٌ وَلَٰكِن لَّا تَشْعُرُونَ ﴾ (They are alive, but you do not perceive) → 2:154
But in آل عمران (Āl ʿImrān), that unseen reality is opened:
﴿ أَحْيَاءٌ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ يُرْزَقُونَ ﴾ (Alive with their Lord, receiving provision) → 3:169–170
What was hidden… is now made visible.

In البقرة (al-Baqarah), authority is mentioned simply:
﴿ وَاللَّهُ يُؤْتِي مُلْكَهُ مَن يَشَاءُ ﴾ (Allah gives His dominion to whom He wills) → 2:247
In آل عمران (Āl ʿImrān), that same idea expands into a full vision:
﴿ تُؤْتِي الْمُلْكَ مَن تَشَاءُ وَتَنزِعُ الْمُلْكَ مِمَّن تَشَاءُ ﴾ (You give authority to whom You will and remove it from whom You will) → 3:26

In البقرة (al-Baqarah), the prohibition of usury appears briefly.
But in آل عمران (Āl ʿImrān), its nature is exposed:
﴿ أَضْعَافًا مُّضَاعَفَةً ﴾ (Multiplied many times over) → 3:130

In البقرة (al-Baqarah), pilgrimage is introduced:
﴿ وَأَتِمُّوا الْحَجَّ ﴾ (Complete the Hajj) → 2:196
In آل عمران (Āl ʿImrān), it is clarified and elevated:
﴿ وَلِلَّهِ عَلَى النَّاسِ حِجُّ الْبَيْتِ ﴾ (Pilgrimage to the House is a duty owed to Allah) → 3:97

In البقرة (al-Baqarah), the People of the Book are mentioned collectively:
﴿ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا مِّنكُمْ ﴾ (Except a few among you) → 2:83
But in آل عمران (Āl ʿImrān):
﴿ لَيْسُوا سَوَاءً ﴾ (They are not all the same) → 3:113–114

In البقرة (al-Baqarah):
﴿ أُمَّةً وَسَطًا ﴾ (A middle nation) → 2:143
In آل عمران (Āl ʿImrān):
﴿ كُنتُمْ خَيْرَ أُمَّةٍ ﴾ (You are the best nation) → 3:110
With the reason clearly stated.

In البقرة (al-Baqarah):
﴿ لَا تَأْكُلُوا أَمْوَالَكُم بِالْبَاطِلِ ﴾ (Do not consume wealth unjustly) → 2:188
In آل عمران (Āl ʿImrān):
﴿ وَمِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ مَن إِن تَأْمَنْهُ … ﴾ (Among the People of the Book are those you can trust…) → 3:75

A Structure That Responds

And then, something even more subtle appears.
A dialogue across surahs.

﴿ مَن ذَا الَّذِي يُقْرِضُ اللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًا ﴾ (Who will lend Allah a goodly loan?) → البقرة 2:245
↓
﴿ إِنَّ اللَّهَ فَقِيرٌ وَنَحْنُ أَغْنِيَاءُ ﴾ (Allah is poor and we are rich) → آل عمران 3:181

From Du‘a to Fulfillment
﴿ رَبَّنَا وَابْعَثْ فِيهِمْ رَسُولًا مِّنْهُمْ ﴾ (Our Lord, send among them a messenger) → 2:129
↓
﴿ بَعَثَ فِيهِمْ رَسُولًا مِّنْ أَنفُسِهِمْ ﴾ (He sent among them a messenger from themselves) → 3:164

Final Reflection
If Surah البقرة (al-Baqarah) builds the foundation — then Surah آل عمران (Āl ʿImrān) teaches you how to stand within it.

And somewhere, the question changes:
Do I understand this enough to live it? 
Am I willing to be shaped by it?

Sometimes people misunderstand silence, patience, or even strong words spoken for the sake of truth. They see only the surface, not the struggle inside a person’s heart.
Allah reminds us in the Qur’an:
“And perhaps you dislike a thing while it is good for you, and perhaps you love a thing while it is bad for you. And Allah knows while you do not know.” (Qur’an 2:216)
Many of the righteous people before us lived through misunderstanding. Even the Prophets were judged, opposed, and accused by the people around them. Yet they carried their struggles quietly and kept their hearts attached to Allah.
The Prophet ﷺ himself faced anger, rejection, and pain from those closest to him and from his people. Still, Allah described him with these words:
“So by mercy from Allah, you were gentle with them.” (Qur’an 3:159)
And Allah tells us about the strength of those who restrain themselves:
“Those who restrain anger and pardon people — and Allah loves the doers of good.” (Qur’an 3:134)
Sometimes a person feels deeply about truth, about justice, about defending what is right. But the real test is learning how to carry that concern with patience, wisdom, and humility. Even great scholars like Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal endured hardship, criticism, and trials, yet they chose patience and reliance upon Allah.
Life is not always about seeking hardship or wishing for it. Sometimes the greater test is to remain sincere, to control the self, and to trust that Allah is shaping a person in ways others cannot see.
Allah sees the intentions that people do not see. And He knows the struggles that remain hidden in the heart.

Tests Are Sometimes Hidden Mercy

There are things in life we wish never happened.

A rejection that hurt deeply.
A relationship that ended.
An opportunity that slipped away.
A plan that completely collapsed.

In those moments we ask ourselves:
“Why would Allah allow this?”

But Allah tells us something that challenges our perspective:

 “Perhaps you dislike something while it is good for you, and perhaps you love something while it is bad for you. Allah knows and you do not know.” (Qur’an 2:216)

Our vision is limited to the present moment.

We see the pain now.
We see the disappointment now.
We see the closed door now.

But Allah sees the entire story.

Sometimes what you wanted would have broken you later.
Sometimes the path you prayed for would have taken you away from Him.
Sometimes the loss you experienced was actually protection.

Think about your past.

There were things you once desperately wanted —
that today you are grateful you never received.

There were people you thought you couldn’t live without —
but losing them brought you closer to Allah.

At the time it felt like loss.
Later it revealed itself as mercy.

Ramadan reminds us to trust Allah’s wisdom even when the heart doesn’t understand.

Tests are not always punishment.

Sometimes they are purification.
Sometimes they are redirection.
Sometimes they are preparation for a version of you that is stronger, wiser, and closer to Allah.

Allah never wastes your pain.

Every moment of patience cleans a part of your soul.
Every tear can raise your rank.
Every difficulty can erase sins.

So if there is something in your life right now that you wish had never happened…

Try to remember this:

Your story is not finished yet.

What feels like hardship today may reveal itself as mercy tomorrow.

Because the One writing your story
knows the ending before the first page even begins.

And His wisdom is always greater than our understanding.

I always had my life carefully planned. I wanted to finish my requirements on time, graduate with my batch, and move forward exactly according to the timeline I had created for myself. In my mind, everything was structured—if I worked hard enough, stayed disciplined enough, and pushed myself enough, I would graduate without any delay.

But Allah had written something different for me.

When I found out that I had to extend one more semester to complete my requirements, I felt disappointed. It felt like I had failed my own expectations. Watching my friends move forward while I had to stay behind was not easy. I questioned why my plan did not work out the way I wanted, especially when I had tried so hard.

Yet, as time passed, I began to see the wisdom behind it.

Extending one more semester slowed me down—and I think I needed that. In the extra months, I didn’t just complete requirements; I deepened my understanding. I became more confident clinically. I had more time to reflect on my weaknesses and actually improve them. I learned patience in a way that no textbook could teach me. I learned humility—that no matter how detailed my plans are, Allah’s plan will always override mine.

Most importantly, I learned trust.

Sometimes we believe delay means denial. But in reality, delay can mean preparation. Maybe I wasn’t being held back—maybe I was being refined. I now see that this extension was not a punishment but protection and growth. It gave me maturity, resilience, and a stronger sense of tawakkul.

If everything had gone according to my timeline, I might have graduated on time—but perhaps I would not have grown the way I did. Allah sees what I cannot see. He knows what I need before I do.

Now, I no longer see this extended semester as a setback. I see it as part of my journey—a chapter that shaped me into a better, stronger, and more prepared version of myself.

Indeed, Allah’s plan was different from mine—but it was better.

Sometimes life feels full of people, busy days, familiar faces, endless conversations, so from the outside it looks like we’re surrounded, included, moving forward.
 Yet quietly, a question keeps echoing inside: why doesn’t anyone come to me when they need someone? That thought slowly makes you question yourself, maybe you’re not good enough at understanding people, maybe you don’t know how to reach hearts, maybe you’re not strong enough to hold someone else’s pain, their emotions, their broken moments. You want to be there, to listen, to help, to matter in someone’s life, but when no one turns to you, your heart begins to believe you’re not capable, that you’re somehow less. 
Then comes a painful truth: connections in this world are fragile. People choose comfort and familiarity; they go where they feel understood, often unaware of how deeply someone else longs to be needed. 
That loneliness hurts, not because you have no one, but because you have so much love, care, and sincerity to give and nowhere to place it.
 And maybe that’s where Allah steps in, because even if people don’t come to you, Allah knows what you carry inside. He knows your intentions, your silent readiness to care, and perhaps He is shaping your heart first, teaching you depth, patience, and strength, before making you a refuge for others. 
When you attach your worth to Allah, you stop measuring yourself by people’s choices and begin to realize that being needed by people is temporary, but being known by Allah is eternal.#Quran ​
