شُرَكَاءَ
shurakāʾa
“they ascribed partners to Him”
Here the plural noun is the direct object of the verb jaʿalā, which is best understood to describe how many males and females from the descendants of Adam and Eve showed ingratitude for God’s favours.
شِرْكًا
shirkan
“they ascribed partnership to Him” OR “they gave (others) a share”
This is a verbal noun which implies supposed partners possessing a share in God’s worship.

Uitleg

These readings amount to the same meaning, though scholars have a range of views concerning the best interpretation [al-Mahdawi].
