امن الرسول بما انزل اليه من ربه والمؤمنون كل امن بالله وملائكته وكتبه ورسله لا نفرق بين احد من رسله وقالوا سمعنا واطعنا غفرانك ربنا واليك المصير

ءَامَنَ ٱلرَّسُولُ بِمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْهِ مِن رَّبِّهِۦ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۚ كُلٌّ ءَامَنَ بِٱللَّهِ وَمَلَـٰٓئِكَتِهِۦ وَكُتُبِهِۦ وَرُسُلِهِۦ لَا نُفَرِّقُ بَيْنَ أَحَدٍ مِّن رُّسُلِهِۦ ۚ وَقَالُوا۟ سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا ۖ غُفْرَانَكَ رَبَّنَا وَإِلَيْكَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ

Occasionally, my 4-year-old protests brushing his teeth (he’s not a fan of the toothpaste flavor). When that happens, I grab a couple of his monster trucks with teeth and ask him to brush theirs too. It always works. He goes from resistant to eager in seconds.

I think it’s because sometimes it’s easier to do things for others than it is to do them for ourselves.
(And of course, the toys add to the excitement.)

It reminds me of when I first reverted.
I often strove to fulfill the command of Allah ﷻ simply because He said to.
'We hear and we obey.' (2:285)

At the time, it was easier to act for His sake than for my own because I was still struggling with self-trust and self-discipline.

I knew the verses:
'If you do good, you do good for yourselves.' (17:7)
'Whoever does righteousness—it is for his own soul.' (41:46)

But honestly, if I had truly internalized it as being 'for me,' I would’ve made excuses.
I would’ve been inconsistent.
I would’ve quit when it got hard.

But subhanallah, as my relationship with Allah ﷻ deepened, I came to realize something so profound:
His commands don’t just build discipline and tawakkul.
They build self-trust.

Every single command is for our own benefit. And the more we live by them, the more we rewire our hearts and minds. 
We change our default settings.

I began noticing myself making better choices, 
resisting harmful things, 
accepting uncomfortable truths, 
asking better questions, 
keeping my promises, 
and showing up consistently and sincerely even when it was difficult.
All by the mercy and permission of Allah ﷻ.

Learning the wisdom behind His commands has only deepened my love for Him and the beautiful ways He protects us.

I no longer obey just because He commands it.
I also obey because I want what He’s guiding me toward.
I long for Jannah not just because I believe in it, but because I truly want to be there.
When He mentions the people of proximity in Surah Al-Wāqiʿah (56:10–11)
…I genuinely hope, pray, and strive to be among them.

The fact that His commands benefit us is one of the most subtle, tender ways Allah ﷻ teaches us to love ourselves. 
So that we might better appreciate His intentionality in creating us, and trust in His guidance completely.

When kids are small, they believe in fairy tales, unicorns, and magic powers. They inhabit a world filled with wonder and imagination, where the impossible seems possible. However, as they grow up, they come to understand that these magical stories are just that—stories. They realize that fairy tales and mythical creatures don't exist in the real world. This marks a shift in their perspective as they begin to value reason and logic over imagination. They start to question the world around them, seeking answers to the whys and hows of life.

For some, this transition extends to their views on religion. They might start to see religious beliefs as similar to the fairy tales they once believed in—stories that can't be seen or proven. They seek evidence and logical explanations, often finding it difficult to accept things that lie beyond the realm of the visible and tangible.

In this context, having faith in the unseen becomes a matter of choice. More than 1400 years have passed since the last prophet Mohammad pbuh,  yet those who hold onto their belief in one true Lord, His books, His angles, His prophets, and the day of judgment are indeed blessed and the chosen ones. 

We embrace a faith that transcends the need for physical proof, trusting in the spiritual truths conveyed through religious teachings. 

As the Quran states:

'The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], 'We make no distinction between any of His messengers.' And they say, 'We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination.'' (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:285).

This faith in the unseen signifies a deeper understanding and acceptance of spirituality. It reflects an ability to perceive and believe in realities that go beyond the empirical world. 

For us, our faith is not just a remnant of childhood imagination but a conscious, mature conviction that guides our lives.

My Reflection on the Last Two Ayat of Surah Al-Baqarah #reflect

These final verses of Surah Al-Baqarah beautifully summarise the essence of my belief: a complete and unwavering faith in Allah, His last Prophet (ﷺ), all the previous prophets, and the angels. There is no room for hesitation or doubt—we hear and we obey, with full trust in Allah's wisdom and command.

These verses remind me that seeking forgiveness from Allah is not only an act of humility but also a source of strength. It is a recognition that despite our flaws and shortcomings, His mercy is vast and always available to those who turn to Him sincerely.

Life's challenges are not always what they seem. What we perceive as hardship may, in fact, be a test—a means for our growth, a measure of our Iman. It is a reminder that everything comes from Allah, and He knows what we do not. He never burdens a soul beyond what it can bear. Even in moments when life feels overwhelming or when one feels completely alone, I remind myself: Allah is always there. His presence is constant, even when the world feels distant.

These verses give me hope and comfort. They are a reminder that Allah's plan is perfect, His mercy is infinite, and that turning to Him with sincerity, especially through this dua, revives the heart. It assures me that no matter how far I may fall, His mercy is always within reach.

A Divine Assurance in Our Duas

Dua is not just a asking for your needs, rather the duas we learn in the Quran are more than just requests—they are intimate conversations with our Creator, a moment of humility, a means of seeking comfort, and a powerful affirmation of faith. In the Quran, we find endless supplications that not only teach us what to ask for but also these duas help shape our understanding of Allah’s mercy, wisdom, and justice. Among these, the concluding verses of Surah Al-Baqarah stand out as a profound example of how dua can reaffirm our belief and reliance on Allah. 

The Messenger believes in what has been sent down to him from his Lord, as do the faithful. They all believe in God, His angels, His scriptures, and His messengers. ‘We make no distinction between any of His messengers,’ they say, ‘We hear and obey. Grant us Your forgiveness, our Lord. To You we all return!’-(2:285)


Duas in the Quran are not merely requests. They are reminders. They are affirmations. They are a source of healing and relief from our anxieties.

Take these concluding verses of Surah Al-Baqarah, for example

The dua does not immediately ask Allah for forgiveness. Instead, it begins with an affirmation—reminding us that our beloved Prophet ﷺ has believed in what has been revealed to him, and so have the believers. This declaration comes after a long surah containing laws, rulings, and injunctions, covering fasting, Hajj, marriage, social welfare, and more. In this sense, it reminds us that Allah’s laws and wisdom have been acknowledged and upheld by a long line of prophets and generations of believers.

These final verses seal the surah, affirming the unwavering belief of the Prophet ﷺ and the believers in all of Allah’s messengers, His angels, His books, and His divine wisdom.


'We hear and obey. Grant us Your forgiveness, our Lord. To You we all return!'
Here, there is an acknowledgment of our human nature—our inability to perfectly adhere to Allah's perfect guidance. We are bound to fall short, yet Allah reassures us with the next verse:

'God does not burden any soul with more than it can bear: each gains whatever good it has done and suffers its bad.' (2:286)
Although generations of prophets and believers have believed and obeyed Allah's guidance, we will be held accountable as individuals. Each soul will act to its benefit or detriment. 
This divine assurance reminds us that every command in our deen is designed for our benefit. The soul reaps the rewards of obedience, and it is the soul that suffers when it disregards Allah’s commands. In this sense we know our own lapses and acknowledge our shortcomings and vulnerabilities. 
Then comes a heartfelt plea—one that Allah Himself is teaching us to say:

'Our Lord, do not take us to task if we forget or make mistakes.'
SubhanAllah! The Most Merciful is guiding us on how to seek His forgiveness for the inevitable lapses we will experience as servants of Allah. We will fall short. We will sometimes commit injustices—whether accidentally or deliberately, out of forgetfulness or by making mistakes.
Have you ever knowingly done something wrong, even when you were aware of it? This dua covers those moments too.

'Our Lord, do not burden us as You burdened those before us.'
We are asking Allah to protect us from being overburdened, just like the previous People of the Book, who despite receiving clear guidance disobeyed, and that we do not do the same, and instead, we seek ease and guidance in our worship. 

'Our Lord, do not burden us with more than we have strength to bear.'
Here, we are pleading to Allah, asking Him to give us only what we can handle—from life’s tests to its challenges so that we can return to Him after earning His pleasure. 

This dua is a beautiful moment of returning to our core beliefs, seeking reassurance in Allah’s mercy, and reaffirming that He will never place a burden upon us beyond our capacity. And ultimately, we end by seeking His pardon, forgiveness, His mercy and by declaring that He is our protector. 

It is another affirmation that is only His rahma which will earn us ultimate salvation and not our merger efforts and imperfect implementation of His perfect guidance. 


We are reminded to make a similar dua in Ramadan, a month charged with Iman and worship - 
 Our Mother ‘A’isha (Allah Most High be well-pleased with her) said, 'I said, ‘Messenger of Allah, if I know what night the Night of Power is, what do you think I should say during it?’ He (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, ‘Say: 'O Allah, You are Pardoning and you love pardon, so pardon me. (Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa a‘fu ‘anni)'’' [Tirmidhi; Ibn Majah; Nasa’i]


May Allah grant us the ability to embody these duas in our daily lives and find peace in His words. Ameen.

I really love these beautiful ayahs. Especially when we think about how Allah placed them at the end of Baqara. For many ayahs in this surah, Allah told us about the previous chosen nation and now in these ayahs we are making dua to Allah that we don't turn out like them. We are instead stating that we are a nation that hears the commands of Allah and obeys them. Right after we seek Allah's forgiveness because we may not intend to disobey Allah's command but we will fall short as we are only human. By us seeking forgiveness is proof of our belief that we will be held accountable for our deeds which is the last part of the ayah- 'And to you alone is the final return'. May Allah make our best day the day we return to him, ameen.

There were some inconsistencies with my last reflection.The verses were revealed in Madina first year after hijrah. Therefore they were not revealed with the Salah during mi'raj, The hadith for that is weak.
So my reflection although I did write what I felt, some of it was inaccurate. So I edited it****

These verses show me how  truly broken we are, infront of Our Lord. 
We know that we will forget Allah often , and we won't  be able to Worship Him the way He deserves to be Worshipped. And we WILL make mistakes but fixing our mistakes is important. So we are taught to make dua for this.

Allah swt will not burden a person more than what a person can bare. Yet we panic as soon as something happens to us, or if something doesn't go our way. 
Subhan Allah. 

There are so many lessons to be extracted from these verses, but the one that stands out to me is the weakness of mankind and importance of dua to make up for the weakness. 

ربنا لا تؤاخذنا أن نسينا أو اخطأنا

These ayat are some of my favorites in the entire Quran. There’s beauty not only in their contexts, but also their meanings and the promises we are given as believers.

Ayah 284 was the first of these three to be revealed. The companions who heard it were upset - not only were they responsible for their actions and their words, but also their thoughts. 'Whether you make it known what is in your minds or conceal it, God will bring you to account for it.' Several of the companions despaired, and the Prophet Muhammad PBUH told them to say we hear and obey (Ayah 285). Soon after, the last ayah of Surat Al-Baqarah was revealed, beginning with the phrase 'God does not charge a soul with more than it can bear…' and including the dua 'Our Lord, do not take us to task if we forget or unwittingly do wrong.' This ayah gave the companions a huge sense of relief - yes, they were responsible for their actions, but they hear from Allah SWT that they will only be given what they can handle, and they are given dua to ask for only what they can bear, forgiveness for their sins, Allah’s mercy, and victory.

Ayah 285 is another ayah with plenty to consider. Not only does it include the reference listed above, but it is part of the framing of Surat Al-Baqarah (as presented by Under the Shade of the Quran). The first few ayat in this Surah and the last few, especially 285, contain the basic beliefs Muslims share, belief in the seen and unseen as revealed to us by Allah SWT ('what was revealed to [the Prophet] and what was revealed before [him]', the Hereafter, Allah, His Angels, His books, and His Messengers). This whole surah has a multitude of references to our beliefs, and these beginning and ending ayat summarize them beautifully.

One of the most beautiful pieces of Ayah 285 is how it groups the believers with the Prophet PBUH. By virtue of Muhammad PBUH receiving the message, he experienced the religion - submission to Allah SWT - in a way we will never experience. And yet, in Ayah 285, we are honored with the statement that 'The Messenger believes in what was revealed to him by his Lord, and so do all of the believers.' We are told we can believe in the message so strongly even though we did not experience its revelation - that we don’t need revelation personally to believe in Allah SWT and all that was revealed to us through the messengers peace be upon them.

Speaking of the messengers, it is important to note that Ayah 285 states 'We make no distinction between any of [Allah’s] messengers.' Our religion teaches us to love all of the prophets - to love Isa AS, to love Ibrahim AS, to love Musa AS, and every other messenger. We would not respect or integrate their histories into Islamic history if we did not love them as we love the Prophet Muhammad PBUH. We would not treat all believers of the times of other messengers the way we treat believers that followed the message given to Muhammad PBUH. We may hold ourselves higher than other peoples, like what some of the Israelite communities had done.

Ayah 286 closes Surat Al-Baqarah beautifully. This surah as a whole contains so many heavy commandments: the obligations of fasting and zakah, the command to fight even when it is hated by the believers, some of the commands surrounding cessation of alcohol, revelations regarding interest, and more. Ayah 286, with its messages of Allah SWT only giving us what we can bear, the dua it contains where we ask Allah SWT not to hold us accountable if we forget or do wrong unintentionally - those are incredible sources of relief for the believers who have had their ways of life change so dramatically over the course of revelation until this point. These are incredible sources of relief for us too - living in a world where holding onto our faith is so hard, and we make mistakes unwittingly, we pray that Allah SWT can excuse us in all of the ways we err unknowingly and forgive us when we repent for sins we do knowingly.

Why wouldn’t Allah SWT leave us with just the promise that He would not burden us with more than we can bear? Why would he provide us with dua, and repeat his promise in the form of dua? ('God does not charge a soul with more than it can bear [...] Our Lord, do not burden us with what we do not have the strength to bear.') Maybe it is because we need to do our part in moving toward Allah SWT in times of hardship. Allah SWT can will anything - He SWT could have willed for dates to fall for Maryam AS after she gave birth to Isa AS - but she was asked to shake the trunk of the tree. Can you imagine a woman, as she endures the hardship of labor, shaking the trunk of a date tree enough to bring down dates? Me either. But Allah SWT commanded her to do so, and provided her with the dates. Similarly, we may be doing our part by asking Allah SWT for relief, and mercy, and forgiveness. Our challenges are unique to each of us, and they may push us to our limits, but as long as we do our part, and we ask Allah for strength and mercy and victory, we may just succeed.
