In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful,

Today, I met with my Lebanese friend. We were discussing politics and parenting in the West. Both of our eldest children are growing and we were discussing the challenges we are facing bringing up our children against a lot of changes and trials. 

So, during my discussion I advised that as parents we must allow our children to come to us to answer any sort of question. Then we came onto the topic of LGBT and so on. I told my friend that when I was a small girl my father may Allah have mercy upon his soul used to narrate the stories of the prophets peace be upon them all to me. This set the foundation of me wanting to pursue seeking knowledge. The same thing I have done with my own children. These stories as adults later we discover that they carry deep examples and lessons; particularly guidance on how to deal with different types of tests and through their examples. 

When discussing about LGBT, I remembered the story of Lut Alahisalaam. My eldest son has asked a few questions regarding LGBT and I realised had I not gone into detail with the story of Lut AS and his people he might have not had anything to compare today’s world with. He might not have understood its dangers if he had not discovered this story. As today the LGBT movement though homosexuality isn’t something new it’s practice and acceptance has been pushed into the faces of our children and society.

Then we see prophet Musa Alahis salaam and Pharoah and a child can understand that tyrannical leaders have existed in the past and they still exist today - but speaking for truth and justice, helping the oppressed people like Musa Alahis salaam and his brother Harun Alahis salaam, Allah was with them. 

To understand the nature of tests and trials, to understand the changes and similarities between societies, to  demonstrate the beauty of Islam one should teach their children the love for all the prophets peace be upon them all. 

These stories stand the test of time because they are lessons for all of mankind.

We’re certainly battling societal insanity and madness; and trying to go against this tsunami is our fitna, but I have no doubt that Allah’s Will shall be done and He’ll help us if we’re sincere. Prophet Lut’s story is a merciful reminder telling us  that Allah will cleanse His earth and His plan will have resolve for us all.
