This dunya is a waiting room. 

We are all waiting for the Day of Judgment—believers and disbelievers alike. 
No one can skip the wait. 
But how we wait reveals everything about our mindset.

While waiting at the DMV to renew my license, I couldn’t help but notice the different types of people and the various ways they waited their turn. 

It reminded me of these ayat:

'And wait – we too are waiting.' (11:122)
'Wait then! They too are certainly waiting.' (44:59)

I then connected each waiting type to a mindset.

The Fidgeter
Restless, constantly shifting, anxious to leave. → The one who fears stillness—always keeping busy to avoid self-reflection, uncomfortable with silence because it forces them to face their thoughts.

The Impatient One 
Pacing, checking the time, complaining to the staff. → The one who hates waiting, feeling like life is being wasted, not realizing this is the test.

The Loud Attention-Seeker
Talking to everyone, making noises, plays music aloud. → A person who thrives on being noticed, afraid of being forgotten, filling the silence with distractions.

The One Glued to Their Phone
Watching videos, playing games, texting. → Someone lost in entertainment, distracting themselves from reality, unaware that time is slipping away.

The One Who Steps Outside
Taking a smoke break. → The escapist, always looking for an exit, numbing themselves from the weight of life instead of facing it.

The One Who Falls Asleep 
Head down, unaware of their surroundings. → The heedless, unaware of their purpose, completely unprepared for what’s coming next.

The One Staring Blankly
Zoned out, looking at the floor or ceiling. → Someone detached, indifferent, neither here nor there, just passing time.

The Calm, Prepared One 
Patient, reading, reflecting, making the most of the wait. → The believer who understands that waiting is part of the test. They use this time to prepare, knowing the wait will eventually end.

'So be patient; indeed, the promise of Allah is truth…' (40:55)

The wait is inevitable. 
The question is: How are you waiting?
