ذالك جزيناهم بما كفروا وهل نجازي الا الكفور ١٧
ذَٰلِكَ جَزَيْنَـٰهُم بِمَا كَفَرُوا۟ ۖ وَهَلْ نُجَـٰزِىٓ إِلَّا ٱلْكَفُورَ ١٧
ذَٰلِكَ
جَزَيۡنَٰهُم
بِمَا
كَفَرُواْۖ
وَهَلۡ
نُجَٰزِيٓ
إِلَّا
ٱلۡكَفُورَ
١٧
Ainsi les rétribuâmes-Nous pour leur mécréance. Saurions-Nous sanctionner un autre que le mécréant ?

وَهَلۡ نُجَازِي إِلَّا ٱلۡكَفُورَ
wa-hal nujāzī illā l-kafūra
“Would We punish anyone (like this) but the ungrateful?”
In this reading, Allah speaks of His action with the first-person majestic plural.
وَهَلۡ يُجَازَى إِلَّا ٱلۡكَفُورُ
wa-hal yujāzā illā l-kafūru
“Would anyone but the ungrateful be punished (like this)?”
This reading uses the passive voice.
