Tafsir: Ali-'Imran 3:78

وان منهم لفريقا يلوون السنتهم بالكتاب لتحسبوه من الكتاب وما هو من الكتاب ويقولون هو من عند الله وما هو من عند الله ويقولون على الله الكذب وهم يعلمون ٧٨

وَإِنَّ مِنْهُمْ لَفَرِيقًۭا يَلْوُۥنَ أَلْسِنَتَهُم بِٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لِتَحْسَبُوهُ مِنَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ وَمَا هُوَ مِنَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ وَيَقُولُونَ هُوَ مِنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ وَمَا هُوَ مِنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ وَيَقُولُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ ٧٨

وَإِنَّ

مِنۡهُمۡ

لَفَرِيقٗا

يَلۡوُۥنَ

أَلۡسِنَتَهُم

بِٱلۡكِتَٰبِ

لِتَحۡسَبُوهُ

مِنَ

ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ

وَمَا

هُوَ

مِنَ

ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ

وَيَقُولُونَ

هُوَ

مِنۡ

عِندِ

ٱللَّهِ

وَمَا

هُوَ

مِنۡ

عِندِ

ٱللَّهِۖ

وَيَقُولُونَ

عَلَى

ٱللَّهِ

ٱلۡكَذِبَ

وَهُمۡ

يَعۡلَمُونَ

٧٨

Et il y a parmi eux certains qui roulent leur langues en lisant le Livre pour vous faire croire que cela provient du Livre, alors qu’il n’est point du Livre; et ils disent : "Ceci vient d’Allah", alors qu’il ne vient pas d’Allah. Et ils disent sciemment des mensonges contre Allah.

It was during the presence of the deputation from Najran that some Jews and Christians had said: '0 Muhammad, do you want us to worship you the way Christians worship Jesus, son of Mary?' He said: 'I seek refuge with Allah that we worship someone other than Allah or call on others to do so. Allah Almighty has not sent us to do that.' Thereupon, this verse was revealed.
