Tests Are Signs of Divine Care, Not Rejection

Yet the Quran teaches otherwise. “Perhaps you dislike something which is good for you…” This verse reveals a profound truth: our perception of good and bad is limited by our momentary emotions, while Allah’s wisdom spans eternity.Think of Prophet Yusuf (peace be upon him). When he was betrayed and thrown into prison, it must have seemed like utter loss. But that very confinement became the gateway to his rise in rank and reunion with his family. What appeared to be rejection was Allah’s redirection toward greater honor.Similarly, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) faced the bitter rejection of Ta’if, only to be blessed with the miraculous Night Journey (Isra’ and Mi’raj) soon after. From pain came elevation. From hardship came ease, just as Allah promises in Surah Ash-Sharh.When we look at the world today, the suffering in war zones, the injustice, the helplessness, it can feel unbearable. But Allah’s wisdom is never absent. Hardship often gives rise to unity, compassion, and the awakening of hearts. It strips away illusion and reminds us of our dependence on the Ever-living, the Sustainer.Faith means believing that every delay, every loss, and every prayer answered in ways unseen is perfectly timed by the Most Merciful. Instead, he prayed, forgave, and pressed forward, all while being anchored by sabr. His patience was not weakness; it was an unshakable inner power rooted in his certainty that Allah was in control.Patience is like a muscle: it grows when tested. Every loss, every delayed response to supplication, strengthens it if we bear it with faith. And Allah promises something extraordinary: the patient will be rewarded “without account.” That means beyond measure, beyond calculation, beyond our imagination.In our modern world, patience can feel unnatural. We are used to instant results and immediate solutions. Yet spiritual growth follows a different pattern. Sometimes Allah delays your plans to guide you toward greater wisdom and closeness to Him. He delays your wish to purify your heart and strengthen your faith. It transforms anxiety into serenity, because the believer no longer carries the burden of control.Allah says, “Whoever relies upon Allah – He is sufficient for him.” This verse is a divine guarantee: if your heart truly rests upon Allah, He is sufficient. Not outcomes, not people, not worldly measures of success, just Him.The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), during the Hijrah, along with Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), had to hide in the cave as his enemies approached. Abu Bakr’s heart trembled, but the Prophet said, “Do not be sad; indeed, Allah is with us.” (Quran 9:40) That is the essence of tawakkul: the quiet certainty that even in the darkest cave, you are never alone.When the path is unclear, when plans collapse, jobs are lost, or loved ones fall ill, trust is tested. But this is where faith becomes real.
