ولله ما في السماوات وما في الارض ليجزي الذين اساءوا بما عملوا ويجزي الذين احسنوا بالحسنى

وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ لِيَجْزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسَـٰٓـُٔوا۟ بِمَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَيَجْزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا۟ بِٱلْحُسْنَى

This ayah, like many others, is a testament to Allah's infinite mercy and justice. While Allah warns the wrongdoers of a compensation which will be fit for their wrongdoings, He reassures the rightly guided ones of the "FINEST AWARD" to ever exist! Not what they deserve fairly or what they have earned, but the ULTIMATE BEST!

That's because unlike the worldly reward, which is far from apt for the performed act, the ULTIMATE REWARD will be more than what is befitting for their sacrifices and acts of worship. The ULTIMATE REWARD will be from Allah, at par with His Grandeur and unmatched Mercy, exceeding all expectations! 

This is also evident in the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH): "No One Will Enter Paradise by Virtue of His Deeds, rather by the Mercy of Allah, Exalted Is He!"

I especially appreciated the link you made with the hadith, it grounds the reflection in both Quranic and Prophetic wisdom. It’s humbling to think that no matter how much we strive, it is ultimately Allah’s mercy that grants us success in the Hereafter.

I love coming across the ayaat of the Qur'an that mention how Allah will deal with us on the Day of Judgement (may we be written amongst the good-doers!)

Allah specifies that our evil deeds will be recompensed according to what we did BUT our good deeds will be recompensed with the very best reward. Clearly goodness and evil are not the same. 

Allah is al-ʿAdl. The Just One will not punish beyond what we have done BUT in terms of reward, Allah is also al-Kareem. The Generous One will reward without measure.

SubhanAllah. This goes over and beyond our petty, quid pro quo conceptions of justice. How honoured are we to serve a Lord like this!
