قَالَ أَتَعْبُدُونَ مَا تَنْحِتُونَ

When we study the life of Ibrahim AS, as related to us by Allah SWT, we find a tender-hearted Prophet who is concerned about one critical issue. How do I get people to abandon false gods, and invite them to the worship of Allah alone?  All he ever wanted was for his people and humanity at large to believe in the truth, abandon idols and other forms of shirk. And in order to fulfil this mission he set out-from a young age -calling people to Tawheed. He appealed to their intellect, their emotions and was willing to sacrifice his own safety, for their benefit and for their success. This wasn't a one-off engagement, it was a lifetime mission.  He broke the biggest Idol and placed the axe around its neck, as an effective strategy to expose the lifelessness and powerlessness of these false gods. He challenged them saying: 

' ‘What are you worshipping? How can you choose false gods instead of the true God? So what is your opinion about the Lord of all the Worlds? ’then he looked up to the stars. He said, ‘I am sick,’so [his people] turned away from him and left.He turned to their gods and said, ‘Do you not eat? Why do you not speak?’then he turned and struck them with his right arm.His people hurried towards him, but he said, ‘How can you worship things you carve with your own hands, when it is God who has created you and all your handiwork?’ They said ˹to one another˺, 'Build him a furnace and cast him into the blazing fire. They wanted to harm him, but We humiliated them.'( 37:84-99)

This inspiring legacy of our father Ibrahim (AS) is not just a tale of courage, it's a timeless call to purpose and a reminder of our priorities. His persistent dedication to truth, his fearless challenge of falsehood, and his compassion for misguided hearts remind us that the path of Tawheed requires both conviction and sacrifice. Today, in an age where we have an abundance of distractions and modern idols, we are reminded in this season of Dhul Hijjah , to revive the legacy of our father Ibrahim (AS), not just by rejecting falsehood externally, but by purifying our hearts internally. Like Ibrahim (AS), may we become sincere  ambassadors of truth, using wisdom, patience, and sincere love to guide ourselves and others back to the worship of Allah alone. Let his mission become ours.
