Masha Allah !

The reward for eating healthy and denying the self its cravings for junk food is not junk food; the reward is a healthy body. In the same way, the reward for cleansing and purifying the soul is a healthy soul.

And a healthy soul is a soul at peace, constantly finding rest in the remembrance of Allah: “Surely, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.” (Qur’an 13:28)

Today, while going to the office, I encountered heavy traffic. But when I finally arrived, I suddenly felt a sense of peace. I thought to myself, the office is not a resting place, so why do I feel this rest?

That was when I realized: sometimes, when we journey towards something, that thing itself is the reward. The reward for purifying the soul is nothing other than a healthy soul—a soul capable of finding peace wherever it is, because its rest, is in the remembrance of Allah.

“Indeed, successful is the one who purifies it.” (Qur’an 91:9)

Perhaps this is the beauty of the journey of purification: you do not only receive a reward at the end; you gradually become the reward you were seeking.

The harder the purification, the deeper the peace.

May Allah be our strenght

What a beautiful reminder that Allah's greatest gifts are often the ones He is shaping within us. Jazākillāhu khayran. 🤍

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful, 

In these 10 days of Dhul Hijjah we are encouraged to perform more Dhikr. A few reflections here after sessions of Dhikr and seclusion:

Dhikr, reigns you away from the distractions of this world; it causes one to acknowledge His Greatness, His Power, His omnipresence,
This causes your troubles to feel small, and your heart becomes filled with awe, and this awe leads to longing and hope. Hope in the One who never breaks His promise. 

The awe of the Creator of the heavens and earth causes you to feel that He loves you and has placed in your heart His remembrance, and if you remember Him, He remembers you. Yes, little you! His love embraces the smallest, the unknown, the most downtrodden, and the poorest, for everyone is welcome at His door.

If the soul finds restriction and is unable to find that peace, that means they are too distracted from their goal, and they must work harder to have this time for seclusion to remember their purpose and that they will soon face their Creator with their deeds. Slow down and look at the skies and marvel at what He has created. 

We are in a time of increasing distractions and being preoccupied. Allah’s remembrance feels like medicine and a rest from the worldly toll. Dhikr is relief; it creates clarity and a softness in one’s heart, and it refreshes the soul, knowing wherever it goes, it is not alone. 

Small phrases that are the undeniable truth. He is worthy of every praise, and because it is the truth that Allah is the greatest, glory be to Allah, there is no god but Allah, there is no power or might except Allah, and praise be to Allah; this is extremely comforting. 

Indeed, Allah is the Most Merciful, and to Him belongs all praise.

Just as the eye cannot enjoy a sweet fragrance, the nose cannot admire a beautiful view, and delicious food cannot be savored except by the tongue, every faculty finds fulfillment only in what it was created for. In the same way, the heart finds true peace only in the remembrance of God. And by remembrance, I do not mean mere words spoken by the tongue, but living with the awareness that we exist in a universe created and guided by God, who is more merciful to us than our own mothers. A heart rooted in this understanding finds more comfort.

Beautiful reflection. I really liked your analogy of each faculty finding its fulfillment in what it was created for and how you tied that into the heart finding true peace in the remembrance of Allah. What a very good reminder that dhikr is not just words on the tongue but a lived awareness of Allah's mercy and guidance.

You may be familiar with the experience that when a certain person that you are close to is staying in your home, it adds more aliveness and vibrancy to your day. You feel that there is more ease and time passes more smoothly. But, when that person leaves, the house starts to feel 'colder' and empty to you and that aliveness isn't there anymore.

The lessons and reminders within the Quran play such a role for your heart but in a much more profound and significant way: if the heart is like a home, then it is the verses of the Quran that bring ease and aliveness into your heart. It brings tranquility, healing, happiness, and mercy into your life, because "Truly, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest" (13:28), and surely much more than that as Allah says:

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ قَدْ جَآءَتْكُم مَّوْعِظَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَشِفَآءٌ لِّمَا فِى ٱلصُّدُورِ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ٭ قُلْ بِفَضْلِ ٱللَّهِ وَبِرَحْمَتِهِۦ فَبِذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَفْرَحُوا۟ هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِّمَّا يَجْمَعُونَ

"O humanity! Indeed, there has come to you a warning from your Lord, a cure for what is in the hearts, a guide, and a mercy for the believers. Say: 'In the bounty of Allah and in His mercy let them rejoice; that is far better than what they amass.'" (10:57-58)

Our heart was created with a specific nature: it was specifically made for the knowledge of Allah, the love of Allah, and the remembrance of Allah. 

When it finds these, it finds what it was designed for. 

However, when it is deprived of them—it becomes like a fish taken out of water. It may survive for a short time, but it is dying.

During our lives, when we seek wealth, we find anxiety. When we seek status, we end up finding the fear of losing that status and privilege. 

This is because these things were never designed to give the heart what it needs. Only the One who MADE the heart can give it what it was made for.

So be in the constant remembrance of Allah, because in this remembrance your heart finds peace and nourishment it actually needs and deserve. 

Beautiful reflection. The comparison of the heart with a fish taken out of water is very powerful, and the reflection nicely brings the reader back to the central message of the ayah: that true peace and nourishment of the heart are found in the remembrance of Allah. May Allah make our hearts alive with His remembrance.

At bedtime, a mother may help her hyperactive, overstimulated child calm down by comforting them, reading a peaceful story, and softly tucking them in.

At times, our own hearts can become like an overstimulated child, overwhelmed by the noise and chaos, unable to calm down...

Help your lovely heart get the rest it needs ❤️ Bring it comfort and calm by gently tucking it into His remembrance -  "Surely in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find comfort."

Surah Ar-Ra'd, Ayah 28

Meaning of the Ayah:
“Those who believe and whose hearts find peace in the remembrance of Allah. Surely, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find peace.”

Since yesterday, I have been reflecting on this — that when I wake up and, after resting again, recite the Qur’an in the morning, I feel barakah throughout the entire day. The tasks that usually take a full day to complete get completed within half a day, Ma sha Allah!

Then today, while revising the translation of Parah 13, when I reached this ayah, I could not help but accept its command — that indeed true peace comes only from the remembrance of Allah. Because the material things of this world may give temporary peace, but permanent peace is attained only through the remembrance of Allah, Subhan Allah!

I felt that because of Ramadan, due to fasting, the heart becomes softer. As a result, one feels Allah’s help more deeply, and there is an increase in tawakkul. And remembering Allah and taking out time for Him becomes easier, Subhan Allah!

May Allah keep us all connected to His remembrance, Ameen.

"Peace is not the silencing of the storm. It is the discovery of the Pilot."
Evening skies here are beautiful in a way that asks nothing of you. Birds returning, Planes glowing in the fading light of the sun. The sky surrendering into amber. Everything, even the sun, returns home to rest. The world sleeps and returns fresh.

But what about the hearts?

Sleep is a covenant the body keeps with itself. It heals it.
But with the heart, it has no such covenant.
We keep offering the weary heart what works for the tired body. Rest. Time. Sleep. And still the heart stays broken because we never understood what it actually needs.
The heart doesn't heal through sleep. It heals through awakening.
Not the awakening of morning. The awakening of recognition. The recognition that there exists One who already knows what you carry, because He created it.
The recognition of its Creator.
It rests not in the silence of peace, but when it recognizes Who is the Pilot.
"Unquestionably, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest." 

In moments of confusion, I turn to, where Allah says,
"الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَطْمَئِنُّ قُلُوبُهُمْ بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ أَلَا بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوبُ
 'Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.' My heart feels a pull, and my mind questions every step. Yet, I know that clarity lies in remembering Allah. I feel the weight of these emotions, but I also trust that every test brings me closer to Him. And so, I surrender, seeking peace in His remembrance, even as my heart hesitates.

Hafiz Mustaqeem Mayo​ Mā shā’ Allāh… 🌿
May Allah make that surrender easy for your heart, and may His remembrance turn every hesitation into tranquility. Sometimes the heart trembles before it rests,  but in dhikr, it always finds its way back home.
May He grant you sakīnah and fill your chest with a peace that does not fade. 🤍
