ذالكم وان الله موهن كيد الكافرين ١٨
ذَٰلِكُمْ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مُوهِنُ كَيْدِ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ ١٨
ﱙ

As such, Allah frustrates the evil plans of the disbelievers.

“God weakens the disbelievers’ scheme”

Explanation

These readings convey the same meaning with slightly different grammar. The majority maintain tanwin which is the default when speaking of the present, whereas the narration of Ḥafṣ lightens this through annexation (literally ‘weakener of their scheme’). In the latter two readings, ‘scheme’ is the object of the active participle (forms IV and II, respectively). Form II may be more indicative of repetition [Makki].
