72:19
وانه لما قام عبد الله يدعوه كادوا يكونون عليه لبدا ١٩
وَأَنَّهُۥ لَمَّا قَامَ عَبْدُ ٱللَّهِ يَدْعُوهُ كَادُوا۟ يَكُونُونَ عَلَيْهِ لِبَدًۭا ١٩

Yet when the servant of Allah1 stood up calling upon Him ˹alone˺, the pagans almost swarmed over him.

Explanation

In this surah, thirteen ayahs begin either with a conjunction and anna (as in the first reading here), or with inna (emphatic particle) to create a new sentence. At this particular juncture, arguably beyond the earlier passage, several Readers switch from their usual inna to recite with anna. Note: all Reciters have fathah in ayahs 16 and 18.
