Readings
وَلِتَسْتَبِيْنَ سَبِيلُ المُجْرِمِينَ
wa-li-tastabīna sabīlu l-mujrimīna
وَلِيَسْتَبِيْنَ سَبِيلُ المُجْرِمِينَ
wa-li-yastabīna sabīlu l-mujrimīna
“so the way of the criminals becomes distinct”
In these two readings, the word for ‘the way’ is the subject of the verb (sabīl is variously treated as feminine and masculine).
وَلِتَسْتَبِيْنَ سَبِيلَ المُجْرِمِينَ
wa-li-tastabīna sabīla l-mujrimīna
“so you would discern the way of the criminals”
In this reading, the verb is conjugated in the second person (addressing the Prophet (ﷺ)), and ‘the way’ is its object.

Explanation

The readings provide complementary meanings.
