Readings
جَاءَنَا
jāʾanā
“When such a person comes to Us”
This reading refers in the singular to the person who turned away from remembrance.
جَاءَانَا
jāʾānā
“When both come before Us”
This reading uses the dual to refer both to the person and the devil he was paired with.

Explanation

These readings amount to the same meaning, as the continued presence of the devil is implied in the remainder of the ayah [al-Mahdawi].

He has revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ the Book in truth, confirming what came before it, as He revealed the Torah and the Gospel
