اتخذناهم سخريا ام زاغت عنهم الابصار ٦٣
أَتَّخَذْنَـٰهُمْ سِخْرِيًّا أَمْ زَاغَتْ عَنْهُمُ ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرُ ٦٣

Were we wrong in mocking them ˹in the world˺?1 Or do our eyes ˹just˺ fail to see them ˹in the Fire˺?”

أَتَّخَذۡنَاهُمۡ سُخۡرِيًّا
a-ttakhadhnāhum sukhriyyan
“Did we really take them as a laughing-stock?”
These two readings contain an interrogative hamzah. There are two linguistic forms for the accusative word.
اتَّخَذۡنَاهُمۡ سِخۡرِيًّا
ittakhadhnāhum sikhriyyan
اتَّخَذۡنَاهُمۡ سُخۡرِيًّا
ittakhadhnāhum sukhriyyan
“and took as a laughing-stock”
These two readings have the verb without an interrogative particle.
