2:69
قالوا ادع لنا ربك يبين لنا ما لونها قال انه يقول انها بقرة صفراء فاقع لونها تسر الناظرين ٦٩
قَالُوا۟ ٱدْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ يُبَيِّن لَّنَا مَا لَوْنُهَا ۚ قَالَ إِنَّهُۥ يَقُولُ إِنَّهَا بَقَرَةٌۭ صَفْرَآءُ فَاقِعٌۭ لَّوْنُهَا تَسُرُّ ٱلنَّـٰظِرِينَ ٦٩
قَالُواْﳁ
ٱدۡعُﳂ
لَنَاﳃ
رَبَّكَﳄ
يُبَيِّنﳅ
لَّنَاﳆ
مَاﳇ
لَوۡنُهَاۚﳈﳉ
قَالَﳊ
إِنَّهُۥﳋ
يَقُولُﳌ
إِنَّهَاﳍ
بَقَرَةٞﳎ
صَفۡرَآءُﳏ
فَاقِعٞﳐ
لَّوۡنُهَاﳑ
تَسُرُّﳒ
ٱلنَّٰظِرِينَﳓ
٦٩ﳔ
They said, “Call upon your Lord to specify for us its colour.” He replied, “Allah says, ‘It should be a bright yellow cow—pleasant to see.’”

You are reading a tafsir for the group of verses 2:69 to 2:71

Another mistake that the Israelites had made was to destroy the simplicity of divine religion by involving themselves in complicated theological wrangling. They had to learn to interpret God’s will in a straightforward manner and obey it immediately. This was another lesson that was taught under the pretext of this murder case: hair-splitting to define the exact scope of divine edicts will only make things difficult for everyone; additional conditions will only complicate the carrying out of what had originally been a simple commandment.
