They kept repeating their cry until We mowed them down, ˹leaving them˺ lifeless.1

فما زالت تلك دعواهم أي لم يزالوا يقولون : يا ويلنا إنا كنا ظالمين . حتى جعلناهم حصيدا أي بالسيوف كما يحصد الزرع بالمنجل ؛ قاله مجاهد . وقال الحسن : أي بالعذاب . خامدين أي ميتين . والخمود الهمود كخمود النار إذا طفئت فشبه خمود الحياة بخمود النار ، كما يقال لمن مات قد طفئ تشبيها بانطفاء النار .
He has revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ the Book in truth, confirming what came before it, as He revealed the Torah and the Gospel
