في قلوبهم مرض فزادهم الله مرضا ولهم عذاب اليم بما كانوا يكذبون ١٠
فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌۭ فَزَادَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ مَرَضًۭا ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْذِبُونَ ١٠

There is sickness in their hearts, and Allah ˹only˺ lets their sickness increase. They will suffer a painful punishment for their lies.

يَكْذِبُونَ
kānū yakdhibūna
“because they used to tell lies”
i.e. when they were alive, the hypocrites would falsely claim to be believers (2:8).
يُكَذِّبُونَ
kānū yukadhdhibūna
“because they used to deny”
i.e. they disbelieved in Allah and the Last Day.
