ذالك جزاوهم بانهم كفروا باياتنا وقالوا ااذا كنا عظاما ورفاتا اانا لمبعوثون خلقا جديدا ٩٨
ذَٰلِكَ جَزَآؤُهُم بِأَنَّهُمْ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا وَقَالُوٓا۟ أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَـٰمًۭا وَرُفَـٰتًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ خَلْقًۭا جَدِيدًا ٩٨

That is their reward for rejecting Our signs and asking ˹mockingly˺, “When we are reduced to bones and ashes, will we really be raised as a new creation?”

“When we are bones...will we be raised...?”

Explanation

These readings convey the same meaning in slightly different ways. The first has two clauses, each with the interrogative hamzah: one reinforces the other. The second reading has the hamzah in the former position only, and the third has it in the latter [al-Mahdawi].
