Readings
فَعُمِّيَتْ
fa-ʿummiyat
“but it was made obscure to you”
This form II verb is in the passive voice, i.e. Allah decreed that these people would not perceive the proof (bayyinah) or the mercy (i.e. prophethood, raḥmah).
فَعَمِيَتْ
fa-ʿamiyat
“but it was obscure to you”
This form I verb conveys this meaning directly, or via a rhetorical reversal.

Explanation

These readings amount to the same meaning, with the first pointing to the agency of God's decree [al-Mahdawi].

He has revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ the Book in truth, confirming what came before it, as He revealed the Torah and the Gospel
