Dan jangan sekali-kali orang-orang kafir menyangka bahawa Kami membiarkan (mereka hidup lama) itu baik bagi diri mereka; kerana sesungguhnya Kami biarkan mereka hanyalah supaya mereka bertambah dosa (di dunia), dan mereka pula beroleh azab seksa yang menghina (di akhirat kelak).

Bacaan
ولَا يَحْسَبَنَّ
wa-lā yaḥsabanna
وَلَا يَحْسِبَنَّ
wa-lā yaḥsibanna
“Those who disbelieve should not think that the fact that We grant them respite is good for them.”
These readings amount to the same meaning. The Prophet (ﷺ) or each listener to the Quran is being told never to have this mistaken idea. The variation between taḥsab and taḥsib is based on linguistic options in this verb. *One transmission from Hishām has wa-lā yaḥsabanna, which conveys the same meaning via the third person (‘A person/the Prophet should not think that…’) [see al-Alusi]. Ibn ʿĀmir's reading uses the form II verb to match more directly the large number of the slain.
وَلَا تَحْسَبَنَّ
wa-lā taḥsabanna
“Do not think that the respite We grant those who disbelieve is good for them.”
This is a forbidding verb addressed in the second person to the Prophet (ﷺ).
