وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَغْنَىٰ وَأَقْنَىٰ

A lot of the things we ask for, we see as being big or small, but really, the size of our asks is relative to us and how we think they are, because to Allah ﷻ, they are all small.
We see these asks, especially the big ones, as being borderline impossible. Such big asks that they are out of reach or higher than us. We have become accustomed to the instant gratification that comes with modern society.

We can think of it like a building in which we get on the elevator to ascend to different floors. But just because you want to go to level 10 doesn’t mean that is where you’re going to go.
We no longer have elevator attendants who press the button for us after we tell them what floor we want, and you can’t press the button yourself. Only Allah ﷻ is in control of the buttons and which floor we get on and off at.

You may be on level 3 and want to get to 10, but He lets you off at level 5. That doesn’t necessarily mean that you weren’t ready for 10. It may mean that there is something to be learned or embodied on level 5 that will serve you as you continue upward.
And sometimes, Allah ﷻ may take you directly to a floor you weren’t prepared for at all.
You may receive the blessing before you have developed the character to carry it well. Or the wealth before you’ve learned generosity, the influence before humility, the ease before gratitude, or the knowledge before sincerity.
And then the blessing itself becomes part of your becoming.

The question is no longer simply, “Am I ready for what I’m asking Allah for?”
It becomes, “If Allah gives me what I’m asking for, what will I do with it?”
Honestly. What do you really want?

And then there are times when the elevator door opens, calling you to come into the elevator so it can take you to the next floor, but you’re too afraid to get on, fearing the unknown of what’s next.
You’ve become too comfortable in your familiar discomfort. 
But strangely, you’re still making dua for the thing on another floor, a higher floor, but you’re not intentionally moving toward it.

It’s essentially like asking for something in the store but being too afraid to go in to get it.
You drive to the store, sit in the parking lot, and pray for what you want inside, but you don’t get out of the car. You don’t cross the parking lot. You don’t stand in front of the automatic doors that open when you’re close enough.
So you stare from your car at the closed doors, thinking that it’s another closed opportunity, but really, you’re just not close enough for them to open.

You have to internalize that you need only to consent through your effort to wanting to rise, to elevate, to a higher purpose, which is to worship and obey Allah ﷻ in everything, and to want to rise to a beautiful character that is most pleasing to Him.

Knowing fully that you’re not the Do-er. 
You’re the receiver.
“And it is He who enriches and suffices.” (53:48)

It’s on you to prepare to receive, because the more you stay the same, the more you want to change…so don’t hesitate.

Pray to catch the bus, then run as fast as you can with urgency and intention, knowing that all you are doing is preparing to receive what is in the store, asking the Do-er to help you.

“And that there is not for man except that [good] for which he strives.” (53:39)

But remember, receiving the blessing is not meant to be the end goal of our actions. His Pleasure is. 
A blessing can become an affliction if it takes you away from the One who gave it to you.
So don't only ask Allah ﷻ to give you what you want. Ask Him to make what He gives you a means of drawing closer to Him.

“Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is within themselves.”  (13:11)

And when the process takes longer than you expected, when the doors don't open when you thought they would, when you're asked to wait, to move, to learn, to start over, to become, remember:
“Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without measure.”  (39:10)

If you feel your duas are next level, don’t give up on them. 
Persevere and rise to them. 

Not because you are the one who makes them happen or because you need to be worthy of receiving them first, but because Allah ﷻ is inviting you to become someone open to receiving whatever He has written for you without collapsing into your ego, and to use it in a way that brings you closer to Him.
