They would not believe in this ˹Quran˺ despite the ˹many˺ examples of those ˹destroyed˺ before.

وقد خلت سنة الأولين أي مضت سنة الله بإهلاك الكفار ، فما أقرب هؤلاء من الهلاك . وقيل : خلت سنة الأولين بمثل ما فعل هؤلاء من التكذيب والكفر ، فهم يقتدون بأولئك .
He has revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ the Book in truth, confirming what came before it, as He revealed the Torah and the Gospel
